Happy {Beachy-Keen} Weekend

Why hello Friday, where oh where have you been hiding all this time? I don’t know about you but I’d love to make a break straight for the beach this weekend.

I’m ready to sit back, relax and enjoy a little bit of the summertime {yes, I think I might quote the entire Will Smith song over the next two months!}.

June certainly went a mile a minute don’t you think? I can hardly believe we’re already bidding the month goodbye. I thought what better way to close it out than to thank my June sponsors and share a handful of my favorite things from their shops with you! I so appreciate their support of this wee ole’ blog!

Things have been fast and furious around these parts too. I don’t know how everything got so dang busy. Did the world miss the memo that summer is supposed to go slowly? Assuming you’re feeling as behind as I am, here are a few things you might have missed this month – there’s been a whole freakin’ lot!

~ My bestie redid her site. It’s purdy. And so did this one!
~ Serious interiors inspiration – including my current favorite room
~ RueLala is discussing stylish escapes this month and asked me to share my top staycation tips
~ We discussed destination wedding packing tips and gave away this bag
~ The darling Joanna is off getting wed
~ This chic really knows how to rock the floral trend
~ I got to do some really fun interviews with these guys and these guys.
~ This column made a triumphant return and this one its debut
~ I got my styling and pie eating on with Rue
~ This art is for sale!

And there’s plenty more where that came from. I’ll be sharing snaps from a few fun events that have been going on around here later this weekend.

What about you? Are you headed out of town for the 4th of July? What are you most excited about for the month ahead? Whatever is on your docket, I hope you enjoy a soft subtle mix this weekend luvies!

Till Monday,

Living the Loft Life: An Art Lesson

Art can be an intimidating topic. What is “good?” How do I decide what I like? How do I find it?? {Luckily, the lovely Kate has been starting to educate us about interesting art pieces.} I certainly don’t claim to have all the right answers, but the loft’s 20ft blank walls were begging to be decorated so we’ve dived in.

Our first challenge was our living room wall. Huge, right in the heart of the house and painted a light shade of grey, I found the scale particularly overwhelming and wasn’t quite sure what to do. Luckily, a local print making company, The GRQP came to my rescue.

Question: How do I decide what art I like? Answer: Sometimes it’s just love at first sight.

That was certainly true in this case. I immediately loved the colors, the textures and whimsical depictions of San Francisco icons in each GRQP piece. I think their representations of the city’s neighborhoods are stunning. They also perfectly filled our space (the wall is about 15ft across)  – providing the shot of color and visual interest our room needed. {I obviously need a bit of hanging lessons – hi crooked!

Question: How do I find art? Answer: It can be tough.

I consider myself lucky because I simply stumbled into a local event that was featuring The GRQP – otherwise it’s highly unlikely I would have ever discovered them. That’s why I’m excited about a little treat I cooked up for you. I love the idea of helping smaller, new artists get their work out to the world and helping you find beautiful pieces that you could love too.

And so I decided we ought to offer Apartment 34 readers the chance to get your own GRQP piece – right off my very wall! All the details are explained below.

The six framed prints you see on our loft wall are all for sale – first come, first serve! For a mere $80 you can have a little homage to San Francisco in your home too. If you’re interested in one of the framed prints please leave a comment on this post and then email thegrqp@gmail.com to arrange payment and delivery.*

You can also get as many prints as you like – The GRQP has generously offered you 15% off any print if you use the coupon code APARTMENT34!

So if you feel like you love The GRQP as much as I do I highly recommend you add a piece to your art wall.

And let me know if you like this idea because I’d love to do more of these in the future!

*The framed prints can only be delivered in the Bay-Area. Please head to The GRQP website if you live outside this area.

Funny Lady: A Remembrance

Nora Ephron’s death left me saddened to a startling and unexpected degree. If you didn’t catch the news, she was the brilliant mind behind so many of the movies we all adore, When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle, You’ve Got Mail and Julie and Julia.

But what I so admire about her and feel like is too often under appreciated – a super smart woman who speaks with honesty, relevance and heart. And this wasn’t only reflected in her screen plays. Nora unapologetically wore her smarts on her sleeve. If you need proof read this. Or pick up her book, I Feel Bad About My Neck.

She also wrote some great lines. These a just a few of my favorites.

And while I will always be grateful for getting to watch You’ve Got Mail for the 105th time, I’m even more appreciative of the reminder to speak my mind and do it where people can hear me.

Thank you for listening luvies. And thank you for everything Nora.
