Tips for a Stellar Staycation

As RueLaLa’s June guest editor, I’ve got nothing but escape, our theme for the month, on the brain. But you don’t have to jet off to a tropical destination to get away from it all. I’m sharing my tips for staycation success on the RueLaLa blog today!

Hi everyone, Erin from Apartment 34 joining you today. Since Joanna is in Spain celebrating her nuptials {today in fact, congrats from afar Joanna!} I thought it would be fitting to share a wedding inspiration board.

I don’t Spain well but I thought this encapsulated the warm, romantic and slightly rustic mood I would want and suspect Joanna and her beau may be creating right this moment. I imagine alfresco dining, simple linens, a muted color palette and lots of twinkle lights.

No matter how her day was designed, I only hope Joanna is enjoying every minute of it!

Where/Wear {Update Your Old Red, White & Blue}

To celebrate the first week of summer, here’s a fresh take on the traditional Fourth of July color palette.  I think Tobe and Gaby really hit it out of the park this time. I’m quite confident you’ll love their summer wardrobe and decor suggestions as much as I do!

Hello! Gaby and Tobe here with another installment of Where/Wear, where we take cues from a single item, occasion, environment or trend and turn it into both a room (Tobe’s job) and an outfit (Gaby’s job).

Since summer is clearly upon us, we are eager to get outside to enjoy the warm weather. Coupled with that little American holiday celebrating independence, we’re loving the idea of sporting our red and blue…but with a bit of a twist.

These amazing paint chip placemats spotted at Leif are perfect for setting a playful summer table in shades of turquoise, or braving the heat in vibrant corals. Keep both looks grounded with earth tones, and you’re sure to impress.

Do we all agree that coral has got to be one of the prettiest colors of summer? Not as girly as pink, and not as bold as orange, coral is eye catching and soothing at the same time. So naturally, it was very easy to put together an outfit with all those pretty shades of coral; starting with these beautiful shorts, which we paired with a pale sheer tank (don’t you love these 2 colors together? editors note: oh my yes I do!) and a statement teardrop bib necklace for an extra punch of color.

And just because it’s hot, doesn’t mean that you can’t be comfortably chic. The leopard-print sandals will turn up your chic level and the dapper fedora and oversized sunglasses will keep you protected while you’re lounging under the summer sun.

Complete the the look with classic earrings and a dainty coral bracelet along with an understated nude belt. And of course we couldn’t forget a roomy yet stylish handbag to store all your necessities, we’re sure this one do the job in style!

If you ask us, nothing says casual outdoor playtime like rattan. Let this coffee table take on a more important role when serving up guests in the yard or at the park by coupling it with low seating. A few punchy turquoise poufs will have guests feeling that funky, boheme vibe.

Add some colorful blankets to complete the bohemian look or keep things graphic with a monochromatic scheme like we have going on here. Neutral painterly plates are complemented by shades of blue with bold turquoise napkins, luminous glasses and barely blue bottles that are perfect for cucumber water or lemonade to quench your thirst in the summer heat. Resin flatware resembles bone, playing up that earthy feel to round out the look.

So tell us, have you fired the bbq yet? What about taking a blanket outdoors?
