New Column: Live Here, Decorate With This

We’ve all seen tropical themed decor. And we all know how it can feel like you’re living in a Tommy Bahama store!

However, you can play homage to your wanderlust without feeling like you live in a vacation rental. We haven’t even left for Hawaii yet and I’m already dreaming about ways to inject a little bit of paradise in the loft.

While we won’t be redoing it to fit a tropical theme, I’d love to toss in a few elements that remind me of faraway beaches.

I’m already dreaming about refreshing our bed with a brightly colored Mexican textile. I’m also smitten with the brass urchin. It alludes to a glamorous tropical destination, but remains fully rooted in a modern urban aesthetic. I’d love to hang three over our bar!

I also wouldn’t mind getting a tiny bit more literal. A shelf or two could use some pieces or coral and I’ve never met a matchbook I don’t like – especially one with a flamingo on it!

I’ll be sure to let you know if we pick up anything fabulous on our trip. And I think I’ll start a new column out of this Live Here, Decorate with This idea – just as an excuse to satisfy a little bit of my never-ending wanderlust.

I hope you like it!

Tasty Tuesday {Tropical Punch}

Is there anything more delicious than a cocktail enjoyed beach side? Yeah, I didn’t think so. As our vacation themed week continues, I can already taste my first pina colada. But you can’t rely on fruity blended drinks alone. Refreshing tropical punches are the best thing to keep you company as you lounge by the pool.

Here are three delicious looking recipes that are sure to be on heavy rotation in Hawaii!

1. Eastside Fizz via Bon Appetit
In a cocktail shaker, muddle 5 thin slices cucumber, 1 1/2 Tbsp. simple syrup, and 10 mint leaves. Add 2 Tbsp. fresh lime juice and 1/4 cup dry gin or vodka. Shake with ice. Strain over rocks in a tall glass. Top with club soda. Garnish with a cucumber spear.

2. Elderflower Champagne Cocktail via Zested
Fill a tumbler with ice. Fill three-quarters of the glass with prosecco. Add a slice of cucumber, fresh mint and top with a splash of St. Germain.

3. White Peach Cooler via The Clever Carro
Make your puree by chopping peaches and simmer over medium heat with sugar and juice of 2 limes for 20 minutes. Blend in a food processor until smooth. Combine peach puree and vodka and pour into glass filled with ice. Add a splash of club soda & lime juice. Garnish with mint and lime.

I’ll be toasting to you from the islands luvies!

Monday Vacation Wear {Beauty Basics}

Please excuse the indulgence, but this week is going to be vacation themed. With our long-awaited Hawaiian getaway only days away, I feel like a little kid counting down to Christmas morning. As I make final preparations I thought I’d share some of my favorite getaway finds with you!

For today’s workwear post, I thought I’d change things up a bit by sharing some of my favorite skincare and make-up finds. Even if you aren’t beach bound, you can still have a sun-kissed summer face.

While I love the sun, it doesn’t get along quite so well with my skin, so much make-up must have list includes lots of sunscreen and natural make-up that’s going to provide maximum protection without leaving me too pale.

STEP 1 – PROTECT
Before I hit the beach each day I’ll certainly start with a serious slather of sunscreen, the higher SPF the better. I’m loving the options from SuperGoop, Chantecaille and Sunday Riley – all of which are paraben and sulfite free!
STEP 2 – GET GLOWING
I might be lounging on the beach but that doesn’t mean I’m not going to cover up a few trouble spots! A tinted moisturizer and light mineral powder should leave my skin looking fresh & clear. I’m particularly excited the 1-2 punch of Jouer Cosmetics Luminizing Tinted Moisturizer and Powder Foundation.  Both are packed with SPF but going on really sheer. A little Laura Mercier bronzer across my forehead and chin and I’ll have a fool-proof faux glow in no time.
STEP 3 – PRETTY POUT

Although red lipstick has started to become a bit of a signature, I think I’ll stick with a pinky-neutral pout when lounging by the pool. Much lower maintenance. Daily wear will be restricted to gloss {the punchy pink Jouer adds just enough raspberry flush to make you look more awake!} and I’ll pack at least one pink lipstick for a dinner date.

What say you luvies? What’s your go-to summer skincare and beauty regime? Any favorites I should maybe run out and try?!

Here’s to maintaining a healthy glow this week!
