We’ve all seen tropical themed decor. And we all know how it can feel like you’re living in a Tommy Bahama store!
However, you can play homage to your wanderlust without feeling like you live in a vacation rental. We haven’t even left for Hawaii yet and I’m already dreaming about ways to inject a little bit of paradise in the loft.
While we won’t be redoing it to fit a tropical theme, I’d love to toss in a few elements that remind me of faraway beaches.
I’m already dreaming about refreshing our bed with a brightly colored Mexican textile. I’m also smitten with the brass urchin. It alludes to a glamorous tropical destination, but remains fully rooted in a modern urban aesthetic. I’d love to hang three over our bar!
I also wouldn’t mind getting a tiny bit more literal. A shelf or two could use some pieces or coral and I’ve never met a matchbook I don’t like – especially one with a flamingo on it!
I’ll be sure to let you know if we pick up anything fabulous on our trip. And I think I’ll start a new column out of this Live Here, Decorate with This idea – just as an excuse to satisfy a little bit of my never-ending wanderlust.
I hope you like it!

Oh I love the cushion – here's to a bit more exotic daydreaming in interiors!
Great minds… I wrote about loving exotic interiors on the ol' blog today! LOVE the throw.
Love the Mexican embroidery…when I was in San Miguel, people were just sitting around making it and I couldn't possibly choose just one thing I wanted!
