Fashion + Decor With #OlioHop

This week we’re kicking things off with a style double whammy: fashion + decor. Boom!  I hope I’ve woken you up now.

And even better, we’re doing it 10 times over as part of the monthly #Oliohop, where 10 bloggers share their design perspective. This month’s theme, Fashion + Decor, was right up my alley so obviously I jumped right on board. Finding my inspiration was also a no brainer: the Celine fall collection is informing all of my style decisions this season.

From the strong color palette to the focus on geometric patterns, oversized shapes, and lovely bursts of white (yes, after Labor Day!)  – every piece in the collection had me at hello. With my well-documented affliction for coats, this Celine look has left me particularly smitten:

The question is how to turn the ensemble from the sartorial to the domestic. I decided to zero in on three things: the color blocking, the punchy hues and the metallic accents (you have no idea how badly I want those gold wedges!).

I’m calling it my Celine-Chic living room. Whatta think?!

When selecting pieces for this imaginary space, the coat was the influence for my anchor furniture. I’ve always been an advocate of selecting solid colors for major pieces. You know what I call a print on a couch? Regrettable. In this case, I went with a white couch in an homage to Celine’s use of the color throughout the collection. I’ve countered that with an all-black buffet. A black structural chair over a graphic rug continues to pick up on Celine’s color blocking trend.

The accent colors of pink, orange and bronzey-gold come into play via the room’s accessories – throw pillows, a side table or perhaps a Moroccan pouf would provide the bits of brightness that we need. My coveted wedges would show up under the guise of metallic end tables or a bronze- infused pendant chandelier.

I think this space would read just like Celine; urban, confident, strong. Who doesn’t want her closet or her home to make her feel like that! One one question remains: when are you going to start shopping?!

I so enjoyed the challenge of the #Oliohop – I have to thank the entire Olioboard team for inviting me to join in the fun. Now be sure to hop on over to the rest of today’s posts to see the designers’ inspiration. Both your closets and your homes will thank you!

  1. Love your Celine-Chic living Room. It’s a backdrop of neutrals surrounded by colorful accessories – that is exactly how I love to design.

  2. ahh! So geometric and bold. Not sure if I prefer the room or the fashion! I like that it’s a bit mid-century-esque. Very much enjoy your blog, thanks!

  3. My favorite line of your post is “urban, confident, strong. Who doesn’t want her closet or her home to make her feel like that!”
I admire how the use of design can be used to uplift ourselves in all areas of our lives. Super post!!! I am pleased to join you in this #OlioHop

Hello Celine & Hello Apartment 34! Color blocking, metals, prints and colors of orange, pink, bronzy gold, black & white are fantastic! Watch out for this confident, urban chic…she’s Fab. Have to have that coat now!

    All the best,

  5. Erin, your Olioboard is stunning! You’ve definitely captured the essence of the inspiration image. I can totally picture your furniture and decor choices in a hip Manhattan apartment (which I would love to come visit!).

  6. Love the wedges, they are golden! We were on the same thought process because I also focused on black and gold. Love the bold pops of color- hot pink & orange, very fun. All the colors you used are ones that have been inspiring me in my current wardrobe. Was using a metallic gold purse and now I just bought a black and white striped bag (a super find at the West Palm Mall)! If you are at HighPoint Market this weekend, I’ll have to show you! Great post and love your blog, I will visit again!

  7. It’s my job to seek out home décor inspirational pieces and I admit sometimes I get a little dry and tired. As I search around I often feel I’ve seen it before. It’s like a writer’s block when you’re trying to complete the book.
Well your post has put me back on track and fortunately I have a wife who is a fashion freak. I confess it passes me by sometimes but seeking inspiration I think I have found it. I love the idea of using a fashion designer to inspire home décor ideas and I have a whole new angle to work with now.
Being fortunate enough to be married to someone who is aware of various designers and what is current and in vogue, I have recruited her to feed my mind. I’ve asked her to introduce me to various styles in the fashion world so I can then go on and find pieces that match with a particular designer in a similar way to what you have done here.

In fact I don’t know why I have not thought of it before, I have you to thank for the idea. My wife is keen to awaken my fashion sense and I’m keen to apply it to home design. Great ideas let’s see how inspired I can be.

  8. Hi Erin!

Thank you for participating in today’s #OlioHop! On behalf of the Olioboard team (enjoying Thanksgiving in Canada today) we appreciate your participation in this fun blog hop!

Speaking for myself personally, I can say that I love your use of pink and orange combined with the strong graphics of black and white and, if I needed it, I would be buying that Celine coat! I truly love the unstructured, clean cut femininity of it.

I also really like the *CelineChic* name for your whole composition. Confident, urban and strong is exactly right.

Good luck in your own new home, Erin , and thanks again!!

  15. Oh boy :) Finally I found site with nice lifestyle shopping tips. I’m from Denmark and recently moved in a nice and small appartment with my girlfriend. We just went through your “decor” category and I must admit that it has inspired me to get some awesome furniture for our new home. If my friends knew that I was writting this they would laugh their buts off :-)
