If you’re like me, growing up you flipped through magazines and dreamed of playing in that glamorous sartorial world. I’ve always loved the editorial take on style, setting a mood and telling a visual story, with the help of fantastic clothes of course!
And then, as I was sitting down to introduce this series to you I spied this all too true thought {from the what I consider the mecca of all profound thinking}: My So-Called Life.
That’s why I was thrilled to partner with a kindred spirit, photographer Emily Johnson Anderson in a new project we’re calling Fashion Fantasy. I must admit, it’s rather fabulous to play with beautiful clothes and a creative friend! You’d be amazed at the different definitions of self you can uncover when you go outside your comfort zone.
For our inaugural experiment, we had the opportunity to feature pieces from one of my favorite lines, Emerson Fry. I’m so excited to share the results with you!
We took our inspiration from the work of Helmut Newton. His famed black and white images featuring strong women seemed like the perfect influence to kick off with!
topcoat and leopard pumps by Emerson Fye {on sale here!}; dress by Alexander Wang {similar here}; fingerless gloves {similar here}

It’s a rather fun challenge to take on a character for an afternoon {as well as climb around the Sutro Baths in high heels! Oh, the lengths we’ll go to in the name of fashion!}. I certainly walked around feeling a bit more brazen and bold for a few days afterward. You never know what characteristics you might uncover. They’re too often hidden deep within.
What will you discover about yourself this week?
