Gotta Getaway: {Half Moon Bay}

The power of a weekend getaway should not be ignored. It is amazing what 48 hours away from your daily routine can do for you. That’s yet another reason we feel lucky living in San Francisco. There are amazing places to escape to all around us – many less than a 90 minute drive north or south!

This is definitely the case with our most recent Gotta Getaway discovery – the Ritz-Carlton at Half Moon Bay.

Only 45 minutes down the coast, the majestic hotel sits atop a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The grounds are gorgeous, with over six miles of walking paths that take you along the cliff’s edge and down to little secluded beaches.

We happened to be there on a particularly beautiful, relatively warm day. Half Moon Bay is known for its misty fog , wind and therefore slightly cooler temperatures, but the Ritz-Carlton has got you covered. Its patio is dotted with firepits to keep you warm – and you can get s’mores kits for a little extra after-dinner treat!

Our room overlooked the golf course and ocean just beyond it. There is very little I love more than a good hotel bed!

Between drinks in the bar, beautiful treats brought to our room and an amazing dinner in the newly renovated restaurant Navio, it was like our own little oasis out in what felt like the middle of nowhere. And I loved it.

I see many escapes to Half Moon Bay in my future! Meet you there?!

Weekend Thoughts & Can’t Miss Links

tumblr_mcvzw7SjUh1qajye7o1_1280Well, another month bites the dust. {I know, I know, we’ve got today and tomorrow, and trust me, I’m gonna milk ’em!}. I tend to bring up the speed of life and the need for balance in my weekend posts a lot, probably because I lack it. It’s the one thing in my life that I love and despise at the same time.

I’ve always prided myself as a go-go-go person, ready to take on anything that might come my way, but it’s also served to bite me in the butt. What’s the saying? Under promise and over deliver? Yeah, I should really try my hand at that rather than the other way around. It’s a good lesson to learn early my dears. I know I’ve certainly let people down in the past because I spread myself too thin. Not something I’m proud of. And apparently, energy really does wane as you age because the pace I used to always keep… let’s just say 1:00 am is not a friendly place anymore.

I recently spied a tidy little list of 16 Ways to Be a Little Happier. I’d rename them as 16 ways to be a little more sane, but I’m loving every suggestion. Of course I don’t have room to fit them into daily life all at once but I love the assignment {and challenge} of attempting one per week. It seems like the perfect way to set the tone for a new month!

Which one would you attempt first?16waystobehappySince it’s a stunning weekend in San Francisco I think I’ll be checking #16, “lie in the sunshine,” off my list! If you’re not headed outdoors this weekend here are few fun things to check out:

Friday Fave {16}: The Ultimate Travel Essential

Wow, June is coming to an end, we’re about to celebrate the 4th of July…the heart of summer is officially here! That also means travel season! For the entire month of July we’re going to be sharing our favorite travel themed goodies from around the web. Stay tuned for inspirations, far-flung destinations and of course travel must-haves.

I’m kicking things off with today’s Friday Fave: the essential weekender. We love the simple and classic look of this leather and canvas bag from Mark and Graham. It’s durable enough to hold up many weekend escapes in snow, rain or sun and I adore how husband or wife can use it to tote around their belongings.

Now the only question is: where to go?! Be sure to check back Sunday for our latest Gotta Getaway for the perfect answer!
