When it comes to choosing chairs for the new office {that yes, is still in the works...}, it’s likely we’ll throw all ergonomic rules out the window. Just like a good pair of 5 inch heels, we’re girls who sacrifice function for form. What can we say, our 65 year old selves will hate us, but no pain without a little gain, right?

Narrowing chairs down was pretty easy. We knew exactly where to start and that was with the classics: Eames, Kartell, Wegner. We are also very specific about our color palette: black or white. After going straight to the big boys, we just can’t decide who’s classic chair we love more. It’s almost a design sin to choose one over the other and it doesn’t help that there are such good replicas out there these days, we’re a little tempted to get all four!

Do we go with the sleek and simple design of the Eames? Wood dowels or eiffel legs? Or do we choose something edgier and eye catching like the Kartell? Sure there are bigger problems to be had in the world than our first world design crisis, but we’re freaking out.

Won’t you help us decide?! We need your vote!

  1. i have no. 2 and damn, i would recommend something upholstered 🙂 not comfortable….maybe a classic eames management if you are sitting there all day!

if i’m picking from these 4, i love no. 1.

    1. Lol, true…it might need a pillow or throw to cushion the hard surface. Or maybe getting those chairs would give us a great excuse to go on more coffee runs!

  2. I’ve been looking at #2 for my dining chairs (no worries of grandchildren staining upholstery) but #4 is eyecatching.

    1. You should go for it! And be sure to tell your grandkids the “you stain/break/scratch it, you buy it” rule! 😉

  3. as someone who has sat in an eames stool for 9 hours a day, 5 days a week, i truly don’t recommend it or any dining chair as a supplement for a proper office chair. i love heels and will sacrifice my feet any day, but the chair is a very different story. your employees will thank you!

  4. Definitely the dowel arm chair which is shown in one of your inspiration photos. that would be a marriage between number 1 and 2. The legs on the dowel in wood are so much more beautiful than the eiffel, but the substance of the cupped “arm” chair is timeless.

My manager has this chair, 8 place settings, at his dining table in a putty or taupe color and it is stunning.

  5. I agree with Ellie. I’m 42 and spent many years on bad chairs (I was self-employed so you take what you get on client sites). About 8 years ago I got diagnosed with OOS (Occupational Overuse Syndrome) so part of my strategy was to invest in a decent chair that fitted my body (I’m 5′ 10″ with long legs). That along with improved posture and regular exercise saved me from chronic 24×7 pain. They’re not the prettiest chairs but your 42-year-old selves will thank you!
