Nora Ephron’s death left me saddened to a startling and unexpected degree. If you didn’t catch the news, she was the brilliant mind behind so many of the movies we all adore, When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle, You’ve Got Mail and Julie and Julia.

But what I so admire about her and feel like is too often under appreciated – a super smart woman who speaks with honesty, relevance and heart. And this wasn’t only reflected in her screen plays. Nora unapologetically wore her smarts on her sleeve. If you need proof read this. Or pick up her book, I Feel Bad About My Neck.

She also wrote some great lines. These a just a few of my favorites.

And while I will always be grateful for getting to watch You’ve Got Mail for the 105th time, I’m even more appreciative of the reminder to speak my mind and do it where people can hear me.

Thank you for listening luvies. And thank you for everything Nora.

“The whole purpose of places like Starbucks is for people with no decision-making ability whatsoever to make six decisions just to buy one cup of coffee. Short, tall, light, dark, caf, decaf, low-fat, non-fat, etc. So people who don't know what the hell they're doing or who on earth they are can, for only $2.95, get not just a cup of coffee but an absolutely defining sense of self: Tall. Decaf. Cappuccino.”- you've got mail. brilliant.
