While on my trip to New York with my mom last month, I was able to sneak in side-trips to check on some of my favorite, and some new-to-me boutiques, in the city. One of them being Duo, the cutest little shop in the East Village, featuring unique modern clothes and vintage accessories that are hard to find anywhere else!
I’m so excited to share all of the adorable details that make Duo one of a kind in this edition of Retail Therapy!
Sisters and business partners, Wendy and Larae Kangas, make an extraordinarily strong duo {pun completely intended} managing their shop and carefully selecting merchandise that they want to carry. Focusing on introducing emerging designers to the world, the gals aim to support local designers who choose to manufacture their garments here in the U.S.
By seeking to curate a well-edited vintage collection, the Kangas sisters really want “Duo to be an inviting place for our clients and to express our own vision by filling our shop with pieces that are timeless and modern.”
Their vision couldn’t me more clear than in one of my favorite collections in the shop, Ambit. The line, based out of Brooklyn, uses the most luxurious materials and flattering lines to create classic pieces to wear in your wardrobe time and time again.
Another thing I love about Duo? The merchandising. Good styling goes a loonggg way my dears. Don’t you just love Duo’s gorgeous jewelry displays and their collection of vintage books along side some insanely well crafted leather handbags? I adore all of the little moments around the shop like their bud vase next to a handful of beads and the garden growing in the front window next to some very well dressed mannequins! If that doesn’t pull you into the store, I don’t know what will!
I want to thank Wendy and Larae for inviting myself and my amazing photographer and friend, Emily Anderson, into the store for the day. It’s now on my must-visit list every time I’m in NYC.
And if I {hopefully!} have peaked your curiosity enough, you can feast your eyes on some of Duo’s collections at their online shop here!
And I do hope you’ve been enjoying our Retail Therapy series. Next up we’re heading to Austin, TX so be sure to check back soon.
