As we say good-bye to summer, I’d like to take a moment to fondly remember the lazy summer days that were. While our next vacation may be months away, I’m hoping the vitamin d we soaked up in Ojai will tide me over for awhile. I won’t be forgetting our little “Tuscan” escape for quite some time.

We grabbed the pups, hopped in the car and headed down the 101 with few expectations. I went to collage in Santa Barbara so am familiar with the Central Coast, but had never headed east into the canyons. I’d been hearing rumblings about Ojai as the perfect little escape for the LA creative crowd – on the grid – but just barely. There’s one little main street, a cute coffee shop or two, a bookstore, a great spot for margaritas, wine tasting, a whole lot of nature and little else. Otherwise known as perfection.

We discovered our own private oasis on VRBO. Tuscan villa is truly not an exaggeration. The lovingly built custom designed home was the perfect dream destination – no plane required.

Perched high above the valley among 500 acres of orange and avocado groves, our secluded oasis felt like the old world plopped down along the California coast. I gladly closed my eyes and pretended I was back in Siena when I looked out over the rolling hills {from a soaking tub in a fabulous master bath no less}

We spent our week cooking {this recipe and this recipe made the rotation}, eating, wandering the local trails, trying the local wine {Ojai Winery rocks} and doing very little else. Like I said, perfection. There are millions upon millions of places you can go in the world and time off is all too rare…but sometimes there are places that just call to you.

I think I’ve found one.

photography by me!

  1. Wow! I love the Ojai retreat where you stayed! I’ve always wanted to visit Ojai – since we live in No. California. BTW, I am hosting a contest on my blog for a new published Interior Design book by Jan Showers. Stop by and enter!

  2. Wonderful escape. Ojai is beautiful! I have to say VRBO is a gem. We used this site to stay in Lafayette, CA, amazing place.

  3. Hello,
    I’d love to know exactly where this house is located in Ojai. Would you be willing to send the vrbo listing?
