While I’ve already talked a bit about 2018 design trends, I much rather get design ideas straight from the source – aka a slew of the amazing interior designers I follow on Instagram and some I even dare to call friends. Thankfully, I found a group of amazing interior designers who are willing to share a few of their secrets with us! Over the next few weeks I’m going to bring you some of my favorite designers and the trends and pieces they can’t wait to get into their clients’ homes this year.

Today we’re peeking into the 2018 moodboard of Lauren Nelson Designs. You might remember her work from this home tour (only our most popular of 2017!). Lauren – as I’ve said before is basically my design spirit animal. She’s even helping me with some (currently top secret!) things for my house. Lauren is taking a very elegant approach to 2018 design and I am really feeling it.

As Nelson explains, “I’m loving all things curvy these days. Arched doorways, curved sofas, rippled glass light fixtures, curved staircases, even ogee edge countertops, dare I say!  I see the pendulum swinging back to more tradition and ornamentation, as a nice balance to the clean-lined modern spaces we’ve been seeing & loving for the last decade.”

While I am the first to love to Scandi style or classic mid-century modern lines, I definitely appreciate the ornamentation that Lauren is talking about (living in a modern Victorian makes it a bit of a requirement!). I have been gravitating to more decorative, refined looking pieces of late. The key is to balance touches of formality within an approachable, livable style. Challenging? Perhaps. But this is where a designer’s expertise really shines through. You should be able to integrate beautiful design in a contemporary home. I’ve rounded up a few of my current favorite “fancy” pieces to give you some more inspiration!design idea to try on apartment 34

What do you think of this style? It’s certainly more formal than the typical uber-casual American look. But it feels nice to spruce things up a bit, don’t you think? Thank you for the inspiration Lauren!
