It’s official. I think getting away to enjoy a spa day is going to be a foreign concept for awhile! I’ve entered newborn land. Between feedings and diaper changes, laundry and oh yea, remembering to bathe myself, it looks like I’ll have to wait a month or two until things feel normal and I can schedule some peronsal pampering time. That said, I am making a point to carve out a few quick and easy at-home spa-like moments {thank gawd for grandmas!}. You’ve got to keep your sanity somehow! With just 20 minutes once a week and some yummy organic skincare products, I can give my face that nice “I just had a facial” glow and I feel much more human! It’s these little rituals that can make the trials of daily life a little easier to handle – even when a newborn isn’t involved. Oh and spending some me-time in an insanely gorgeous bathroom doesn’t hurt either!

Currently, I’m experimenting with Target’s first all-natural skin care line SW Basics. I love that each product includes less than five ingredients {and they’re all organic!} meaning higher-potency and less chance of any additives irritating my skin. For the past year I’ve been trying to switch out all of my beauty products to an organic option {especially once I found out I was pregnant} and this line makes it super affordable to do that. Yay!

sw-basics-6

When I’m craving a healthy skin boost, I first steam bath my face to open up my pores. Simply simmer a pot of water, take it off the stove, and put your face above it with a towel draped over your head, making a tent to trap the steam in. Do this for about five minutes and then wash your face and neck. I’ve fallen in love with rosewater over the years and this rosewater and tea tree oil cleanser is so gentle and hydrating.

Next, I exfoliate to get rid of any dry skin and to really give my face a deep clean. This organic oat flour, almond flour and sea salt exfoliant is rich in vitamin E and just what my sleep-deprived skin needs! You can also use it as a mask just by adding organic plain yogurt or honey to the dry mixture – extra bliss time. I do both: exfoliate, then mask and it’s such a treat for the skin!

sw-basics-1sw-basics-9sw-basics-2

After the mask dries {about 10 minutes}, I rinse with cold water {important to close your nice and clean pores back up!} and smooth on toner. It’s a step I usually skip in my daily regimen so it’s nice to give my skin extra treatment. You could also try using SW Basic’s raw apple cider vinegar and witch hazel toner to balance out the pH levels.

sw-basics-4

Oh, but my favorite thing of all is body scrub! This SW Basics Body Scrub is the real deal. Use it everywhere from your neck to your elbows and it will leave your skin silky soft and smelling delicious! Seriously, this scrub smells so much like dessert, I want to eat it. Thing is, with only three ingredients in it: organic sugar, coconut oil and shredded coconut, you literally COULD eat it!

I can’t tell you how much the right products can change the health of your skin. Plus, knowing that you aren’t putting any crazy chemicals on or in your body just makes you feel good, ya know? I highly recommend stealing that all-too-critical me time once a week. You deserve to indulge in a little beauty pick me up. It makes the world of a difference for your skin and your mental health. I’m thinking maybe I should try to do this twice a week!

With literally only days until our kid is scheduled to make his appearance {days people!}, I’ve been reflecting about the experience of being pregnant a bit. Having had what can only be described as a really smooth ride, I feel pretty lucky. But there were a few unexpected surprises along the way. One that I found particularly amazing is just how much water you have to consume! You seriously become like a camel. Even when downing three or more liters a day, I’ve never been so dry! Think cracked lips, dry mouth, scaly skin – the works. The little bugger really sucks it out of you – literally! So if I were to create a mama-to-be survival kit for all you other pregnant or possibly pregnant ladies out there, these five things would be on the tippy top of my list!

Pregnancy5

#1: Water {obvi!}. Have a water bottle at your side at all times. And every time it empties get up from where ever you are and fill it again. If you have headache, drink water. If you feel lethargic, drink water. Yes, you’ll be running to the bathroom every hour on the hour, but your body, your skin and overall sense of well-being will thank you.

Pregnancy

#2 Water-filled food. Try adding in as many water-filled and fibrous fruits to your diet as you can. Cucumbers, berries, applies, bok choy, celery – keep ’em at your fingertips and snack away. You can also use those berries to flavor your water!

Pregnancy4

#3. Tea Time. Yes, you will get sick of guzzling water so switch it with tea. There are a ton of delicious and beneficial teas for expectant mamas. I’ve particularly loved one that helped me combat heartburn, but you can find ones that help you relax, ones that boost your energy or just generally support the health needs of a mama-to-be. A nice cup of tea is a relaxing way to start and end your day and it gives you a couple more servings of precious fluids!

Pregnancy2

#4 Pretty pout. Your lips are likely to be constantly dry so find a fabulous lip balm. Buy ’em in bulk. You’ll be slathering it on day and night and trust me, your lips will thank you.

Pregnancy3

#5 Reinforcements. No matter how much water you drink, you’re going to need a major moisture boost. Thankfully Skinfix can come to your rescue. Created with 150 year old recipe that was passed down through generations of pharmacists, this lotion packs a serious punch for your skin. And most importantly it has no parabens, no phthalates, steroids or added fragrance – super important to me as I really tried to stick with natural products throughout my pregnancy. Every morning after the shower and every night before bed I’ve been giving my skin an extra moisture boost like this – and no stretch marks thus far!

With all of these tools at my disposal, I’ve been able to keep my skin feeling and looking good for the past 10 months {did you know you’re actually pregnant for 10 months, not nine!}. Now I just have to keep my water-filled beauty routine going once our kid arrives. I know my skin is only going to continue to reap the benefits!

So one of your best friends in the whole wide world is getting married and she asked you to be one of her bridesmaids, or even more special, the maid of honor — eek! But before you help calm her nerves, pick up her train or dab away joyful tears on what’s sure to be the most memorable day of her life, you have one job and one job only: throw an epic bachlorette party! Cocktails, pool lounging and much needed girl time are the requisite requirements, but before you jet to a wild weekend in Palm Springs, Vegas or Miami Beach, there are three words you must remember to ensure your epic weekend goes as planned: Bridesmaid Survival Kits!

bridesmaid-eoseos-apt-34-4

That’s right. Starting the trip off on the right foot is so key in making sure the bridal party {and the bride!} have the time of their l-i-f-e. And what cuter way to do it then by leaving a goodie box at each maid’s house, packed full of everything they’ll need to make the most of an ultimate bachlorette weekend?? Because someone is bound to forget their sunscreen at home {or maybe enjoy one margarita too many!}.

These survival kits are so much fun {and super simple!} to make. So on a nice afternoon, invite your craftiest friend over for cheese and wine and the two of you can sit on the floor while gabbing through wedding details and assembling these cute kits. With a heartfelt card from the bride and a few essentials, the ladies will flip. You can personalize your kits however you’d like, but here’s what we packed in ours:

eos-apt-34-2eos-apt-34-3

Pre-boarding, the girls will need a great read so pack your favorite magazine {this is currently one of our must-reads}, a sunglasses case to protect their shades and cute matching bridal party luggage tags will make sure no one loses their bag!

Assuming everyone plans to go straight to the pool from the plane, sea salt spray will help master that perfect beach hair {we swear by this one}, good sunscreen is a must and some shaving cream {we love the EOS shave cream with shea butter!} will help with any ahem…last second touchups. Lounging essentials include cute deck sandals, hot sunnies and some paper umbrellas, JUST in case your hotel misses the “we’re here to have a good time!” memo!

What else is in our kits? For pre-night-out prep, these beautiful bath salts from Anthropologie will certainly spoil all your gals, nail polish for hotel room manis-pedis and luxurious Aesop face mask will ensure everyone is looking their best. And you can’t forget the Advil, Emergen-C, a banana and some instant Starbucks; aka the cure for the following morning!

eos-apt-34-5eos-apt-34-10eos-apt-34-9eos-apt-34-6

Of course, it’s not only what’s inside the kit that matters, but also how you deliver it! Wrap them up with pretty paper {and a party hat to boot!} and leave one on each maid’s doorstep. It’ll be such a cute surprise for them to come home to, don’t you think? All that will be left for your maids to do is to let their hair down, sip way too many umbrella topped cocktails and celebrate the bride-to-be while looking and feeling good!

As I’ve attested many times before, I’m most definitely a beauty novice {apparently no matter how many lessons I get!}. But with my trip to Greece top of mind, I’m definitely looking for ways to look lovely without having to haul 20lbs of make-up half way across the world! Like I’m sure many of you do, I jump at any chance to get tips straight from the pros. So when MAKE UP FOR EVER invited me out to New York to collaborate with their Creative Director on a makeup look designed specifically for me…let’s just say I couldn’t have gotten on that plane fast enough!

This challenge was a really fun one: pick one of my favorite iconic style inspirations and then work with MAKE UP FOR EVER to create both the makeup and an outfit that epitomized my inspiration. I think I’m going to leave you guessing about who my inspiration was, but I thought I’d share a few sneak peeks of the adventure to whet your whistle! Does this give you any clues as to who my style icon might be?

apt34-makeupforever

While working with a makeup artist can often be scary {I’m sure you can relate to the bad mall makeup we’ve ALL had applied at least once in our lives}, I was thrilled with my final MAKE UP FOR EVER look. Not only did it feel flattering, effortless and actually totally me {just better!}, it also wasn’t that complicated! I think I really could replicate it at home.

apt34-mufe3

That was due in large part to some of MAKE UP FOR EVER’s ingenious products. My favorite was probably their all new Aqua Matic glide-on eye shadow pencil. That baby was foolproof and made doing up my eye totally effortless. The best insider tip I got was about MAKE UP FOR EVER’s Mist & Fix. You know how you’ll look all fab when you walk out the door in the morning, but by 2pm, you look like you never bothered to put makeup on at all? Their totally lightweight moisturizing mist actually sets your makeup so you still look fresh, even as you head out for happy hour! And it seriously did work. I rocked my makeup when the husband and I went out to dinner in NYC after my shoot, no touch ups required. So sold.

apt34-makeupforever2

These are just a couple of the many tip & tricks that I’m going to get to share with you – IN A VIDEO – quite soon! But that is to come. In the meantime, here’s a little sneak peek of my final make-up look!!

Hope you’re as excited as I am to see the entire transformation in real time!

Back in the day, ladies used to head to the salon to get their do’s done weekly. Man I would have liked that! Being hairstyle challenged myself, I can use as much help as I can get! Thankfully, there’s finally a solution for the modern-day woman, thanks to Alli Webb!

Webb, founder of Drybar tapped into a lost market and resurrected it to be better than ever: a non-salon where there are no cuts, no color, just blowouts. Only four years and 38 locations later, it’s safe to say that with Drybar, Webb is slowly taking over the country!

Drybar has become my go-to stop before any event, party or work week on the road. It’s the first place I stop when I do business trips to New York, have a wedding to go to or really just want to look dang good.

So when we got word that Alli Webb, herself, wanted to invite us into Drybar to share some of her tips with us first-hand, we {first danced around the office!} and then jumped at the opportunity to visit her at her newest San Francisco location {situated perfectly in the hustle and bustle of Union Square!}.

Much more than a hair guru, Webb is a business genius {she was recently named one of Fortune’s “40 under 40”}. We were honored to chat about the usual – hair and hottest guys in Hollywood- while in the chair, but what really got us excited was the chance to pick her brain on her secrets to mega-success. We’re so excited to share them with you here on this edition of Girl Crush!

drybar-founder

Alli is the definition of what this series is about. As a seriously-savvy business woman, she started Drybar with her brother four scant years ago and now has a multi-million dollar business under her belt. Here’s what she had to say for herself:

On Starting a Company

My parents are entrepreneurs, so my brother {and business partner!} Michael and I have been exposed to that way of life since we were little kids. But I think I have always been a risk taker and I wholeheartedly believe everything has a way of working out. I know it sounds cliche, but I think everyone should always pursue their passion and be ok with failing- it’s how you learn. The Drybar road has been nothing short of amazing- a TON of hard work, lots of late nights and ups and downs, but absolutely a dream come true.

The Moment

All the great press and accolades have been pretty unbelievable, but I think that “pinch me” moment comes every time we open a new shop. I still worry no one will show up, so when they do it’s such a gratifying feeling. Above all, I think it’s the women whom I’ve never met who come up to me and tell me how much they love Drybar, what an important part of their life we’ve become, and how proud they are of me. Their sincerity always chokes me up.

the-drybar

Proudest Biz Ideas

The iPhone chargers at every station was Michael’s idea, pretty genius indeed. Once we knew we were doing an all out bar theme, the fun ideas kinda poured out of all of us. I personally love the “Big Reveal” mirrors behind the stations. Everyone thought the clients would hate that, but I learned from my mobile blow-dry business that sitting directly in front of a mirror {with wet hair!} was not ideal – we ladies have a tendency to pick ourselves apart. I loved the idea of letting women relax, watch a fun chic flick and then be turned around to pure delight over their transformation! Luckily it worked.

The Brand

I wanted the shops to feel super clean and feminine, a place woman loved to go and hang out in. We all fell in love with the bar theme, but I have to give credit to my ridiculously talented husband, Cameron, who is really the creator of the brand DNA. He’s so meticulous about every little thing and is so great about keeping us on brand – he won’t even let me have red roses in the shops for Valentine’s Day. Everything always has to be yellow. Cameron and Michael work closely together on the marketing side and it’s a beautiful thing to watch them – they sincerely compliment each other. And me 🙂

drybar-alli-webb

On Balance

Ah man, I really haven’t totally figure that one out yet. Balancing the kids and career is the single toughest part of this whole thing, without a doubt. I am lucky to have my mom close by who is like a second mother to my boys. Mostly it’s about being there for the important stuff and sometimes that’s just making sure I’m home to read them a story and tickle their backs before bedtime. I think it’s good that my kids see how hard mommy and daddy work. My parents worked really hard to provide us with a nice lifestyle and I have a great deal of respect for them, so I hope my kids will have the same respect for us too.

Her Advice

Hang in there, it all works out. I think I only recently started to really trust my gut and I have a new sense of confidence that I wish I had when I was younger, but it has all worked out. I think everything happens for a reason… and Drybar so feels like what I was absolutely meant to do!

Deserted Island Must-Haves

Hot Toddy, 100 Proof and Lemon Drop {our game-changing brush that detangles hair like nothing you’ve ever seen}. I would say Buttercup but I’m guessing since it’s a deserted island there’s probably not any power!  I know it sounds self-serving to name three products from my own line, but I seriously spent two years toiling over the development of these products and the result is exactly what I always wanted out of a line of styling products and tools.

After we talked, we were thrilled to have Alli show us, first hand, her top 5 styling tips for the perfect in-home blowout. Ready for it?!

before-drybar

For effect, here is my BEFORE {please don’t Pin this!}. I still don’t understand, to this day, why it is so hard to blowdry my own hair. I mean, it looks flat, scraggly and well, a mess every time I try. Thank gawd, Alli was there to help me tame this head ‘o hair!

5-blowout-tips

Tip 1: Start with really clean hair: A good blowout can {and should, if done properly!} last for days. Detox, our dry shampoo, can certainly help, as well as starting with really clean hair for ultimate bounce and body.

Tip 2: Blow dry your hair as soon as you get out of the shower. Like, we’re talking 5-10 minutes max once you get out. Once your hair begins air drying it’s much more difficult to work out those cowlicks! {I’ve always let it dry 50% before I blowdry- WRONG!}

Tip 3: Take the time to section out your hair. You’ve probably heard this before and if you’re like me, you get lazy about doing it. Alli couldn’t stress enough how big of a difference this makes. Lesson learned: don’t be lazy!

Tip 4: Hold your round brush vertically, not horizontally, while drying. This is true for every part of your head except the crown, where you’ll want to switch to holding the brush horizontally in order to get a smooth finish on that tricky spot! {This might be her ultimate secret- all stylists go through a vigorous training on this as most have actually learned the opposite in beauty school!}

blowout-tipsthe-drybar-alli-webb

Tip 4: Always curl away from the face. Always.

Tip 5: Curl and pull. To avoid bouncy Shirley Temple curls, hold the hair in your brush or curling iron for no more than 5 seconds, release and then pull on the end of the piece of hair to “stretch” it out. After seeing this technique in action, we realized we’ve been curling wrong all of these years. It’s difficult to show in images so we have a video on Alli getting the perfect curl on our Instagram!

drybar-san-francisco

And per usual, we asked Alli to answer in rapid-fire speed our Girl Crush fill-in-the-blanks. She’s so much fun!

girl-crush-alli-webb

If you have yet to try Drybar out for yourself, you’re missing out on such an amazing little piece of heaven on earth. $40 + 40 minutes and boom, you’re out the door with some amazing hair that’ll last you days! Plus, it’s so easy to book an appointment- you can do it straight through their App {obsessed!}. No lie, I booked two future appointments while in the chair!

Huge thanks to Alli who continues to inspire women with her biz savvy prowess! Three words: serious girl crush.

Last week we had beauty expert Erin Dudley come over and play hair-dresser with us. It was so much fun learning the art of the braid! Today, we brought Erin back to help me shore up one of my other weaknesses – makeup trends! I know I can rock red lips and always wear mascara, but that’s about as far as my skills go.

I’ve always wanted a look that I could wear to the office during the day and tszuj {I urban dictionaried the spelling of that!} a little before going out. I don’t like to wear a ton of makeup nor do I take the time in the morning to do anything super complicated. So, we wanted to keep the tutorial as simple and streamlined as it gets! This is Ms. Dudley’s fool proof day-to-evening smokey eye look that even I feel confident I can replicate!

smokey-eye-tutorial-

DAY LOOK

Step 1 (Face): First things first, start with a clean face. Then to achieve that glowy look, apply a radiance primer and then a tinted moisturizer {Erin’s favorite: Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer with SPF 30} to keep your face looking and feeling healthy all day long!

Step 2 (Eyes): You want your eyeshadow to last all day {who wants or has the time to touchup makeup when they’re working?} so Erin recommends one of her favorite products: Smashbox Waterproof Shadow Liners. {They’re an amazing pencil that you can smudge onto your eyelids! SO easy to use}. Apply the liner all over the lid and into the crease and buff with your finger. Next, apply an eye liner to the outer corner of the top lash line and inside water line. Opt for a charcoal gray instead of black- it’s less likely to close off your eyes and create a look that is harsh for day. {Erin’s fave: Nars in Madison Ave} Apply mascara. You can curl your lashes for a more awake look. Erin’s tip – blast your eye curler with your blow dryer. Once heated, it acts like a curling iron for your eyes!

Makeup-Tutorial

Step 3 (Brows): People tend to skip the brows, but they make such a difference in the structure of your face. Be nice to them and apply some brow gel!

Step 4 (Cheeks): For a glowy look, you want to use a peach tone on the cheeks. For oily skin, use a powder blush and for dry skin try a cream based blush. Ladies with darker skin tones can use a blush in a deeper apricot.

Step 5 (lips): It’s important to tie the color on your lips and cheeks together. So, use something within the same color family. Since the lips are the anchor of your face, treat them nicely. Erin suggests a conditioning lip balm – she loves Tarte’s LipSurgence Natural Lip Luster {to avoid cakey, dry lips after your first lip application, Erin’s quick fix is to remember to run your toothbrush over your lips while brushing to exfoliate!}

Step 6: Since you’ll be at work all day, use setting powder that is mineral based to set your makeup. It won’t get into the folds of the skin and will give you that polished, radiant look!

Transitioning your eye makeup from day to night is in fact easy {who knew!}. It’s time to rev up the smokey eye for a more smoldering look!

NIGHT LOOK

Step 1: Add a mineral based eyeshadow to the eye and blend it into the crease. You’ll want to stick to bronze and gunmetal shades {Erin recommends Bronzeite and Moonstone by Opivu}

Step 2: Apply a black coal liner underneath the eye, smudging it out as you go. You’ll also want to do an additional liner application to your water line, inside rim of the eye and inner and outer corners.

Makeup-Tutorial-2

Step 3: Apply a setting powder to give your glowy skin a more matte look for evening – the last thing you want to do is look shiny under candlelight.

Step 4: To finish the look, slap on your favorite lip balm. You don’t want your lips to compete with your eyes so a lip balm is a great way to achieve a true nude lip.

finaleveninglook

The best thing about this day/night combo is that you can sum everything up in three key products: Smashbox Waterproof Shadow liners, Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer and Tarte LipSurgence. You mean I don’t have to buy the whole makeup counter? If it’s this simple, I think I can actually handle it.

Now that I’ve learned how easy it can be to create a smokey eye look I’m going to try it more often. Makeup should be about having fun. Sure, you can have your signature look, but why not switch gears every once in a while. Bookmark this tutorial for your next date night!

Need more inspiration? Erin and I have teamed up on more than tutorials – we’re pinning our favorite fall makeup on hair trends on Pinterest right here!! Maybe we’ll attempt another tutorial soon!

Do you like to change up your normal makeup routine? We’d love to know what you’re interested in learning about.

Today you’re getting a workwear double whammy. We’re tackling spring’s latest fashion and make-up trend! I hope you find them as inspiring and wearable as I do. So let’s dive in.

This spring the definition of “sexy” is giving way to subtle sophistication and I couldn’t be happier about it. Long a fan of more androgynous dressing, I find a real power and steely confidence in these looks. I think this quote from a T Magazine article I read over the weekend says it best:

“There is a a sweet poetry in clothes that are womanly without being sexually provocative.”

Amen to that.

I’m loving this editorial from Vogue China, as it completely epitomizes that sentiment. These looks also couldn’t be better suited {excuse my pun}, for the office!

These styles exude a boyish charm, but also a chic, sophisticated edge. You can break these ensembles down into three keys to creating this effect:

One: Finding the perfect fit. You want a crispness to your buttoned up shirt and snug fit to your boy-style blazer, but a nice slouch to your trouser.

Two: Fabric makes a difference. Texture and quality make this style of dressing deceptively simple. This isn’t about raiding the men’s shelf at the Gap. Instead, look for pieces that are designed for a woman’s body. You’re going to find a lot of silk trousers,  blazers in thick creamy cashmeres and strong cotton twills. Thankfully, these are classic basics that will stick around for years to come, so an investment is advised.

Three: The oxford loafer is king for spring. I long avoided them, but have suddenly found myself gravitating to them like there’s no tomorrow. Especially the d’orsay variety. My favorite local san francisco shoe designer also has a killer pair here.

Bonus point: Have a bit of fun! As much as I idolize Diane Keaton’s style, I’m not sure I could ever get away with wearing a bowler hat, but I’d sure have a ball trying!

Now, another significant part of putting together a killer look is how you decide to dress your face! A self-professed make-up dork, I’m super excited to see clean, simple make-up accompanying the sophisticated spring style. This is something I can handle. I think.

Looking at the examples of spring’s neutral face below, I know this is more complicated than it looks, so I’ve called in some reinforcements to help us out!

Thankfully, my friend and make-up artist extraordinaire,  Erin Dudley, shared her top tips and must-have products with me! Here are the suggestions I made sure to write down {and I recommend you do too!}:

One: A fresh, clean face begins with beautiful skin. I recommend exfoliating 2-3 days a week with an enzyme or scrub like ExfoliKate by Kate Somerville or the Alpha Beta Daily Face Peel by Dr. Dennis Gross. ExfoliKate actually doubles as a facial mask so you not only resurface your skin but you treat it as well. The patented, two-step Alpha Beta Daily Face Peel evens out the skintone and texture, restores a youthful glow with alpha hydroxy acid and anti-aging boosters for accelerated results. If you are up for a splurge, the Clarisonic is a wonderful way to resurface your skin. This hand-held device cleans your skin six times deeper than hands alone and is safe to use every day. Have sensitive or acne prone skin? No problem! There are brush heads that are specific to your skin type.  It’s also a Dr. Oz and Oprah Winfrey recommended product!

Two: This spring is all about complexion and that “lit from within” radiance. The Optimal Brightening Concentrate by NARS is my secret item I love to use to cure lack-luster skin. Use it like a serum under your moisturizer. NARS’ exclusive Light Reflecting Complex and multi-action vitamin C clarifies the skin as well as works long-term to lighten dark spots and help reverse the signs of aging. It’s opalescent sheen gives you that instant luminescence.

Three: I am a fan of tinted moisturizer because it lets your skin shine through for a natural finish. I am obsessed with NARS’ Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer. Francois Nars said,  “Foundation is the key to modern makeup. By balancing color without masking, skin looks flawless and healthy. Nars is about translucent looking skin.” This oil free, sun protecting product improves your skin as you wear it, reducing the appearance of hyperpigmentation in just four weeks!

Four: A strong brow helps give structure to the face and frames the eye area. A bolder brow does not mean overgrown. I definitely suggest cleaning them up either with a brow artist or just tweezing any extra hairs between the eyes or on temples yourself. Anastasia Beverly Hills makes the best products for a flawless, full brow. I love the shade selection because they naturally fill in your brow without being too warm or dark. The stencils are a useful tool you can use to help guide the shape. New to Anastasia? The Brow Genius Kit is a good introduction to the line.

Five: A soft, neutral lip for Spring is the perfect way to keep you looking fresh and bright. I love Bobbi Brown’s Creamy Lip Colors. All the shades are very wearable and the emollient texture lasts all day long. The NARS Multiple stick is also a go-to, multi-use product of mine that gives your basic blank canvas a multi-dimensional quality.  Fave tip -> To complete your look in 2 minutes, apply the same product to your eyes and cheeks.

Got all that? No worries – consider this week’s Get the Look as your ultimate cheat sheet for what I’m deeming “Spring-Chic” style!

Most days, make-up is a mystery to me. I’ve managed to master the most basic of basics, a bit of mascara, a good tinted moisturizer and the power of a red lipstick!

But I was loving the classically glamorous inspiration of the Kate Spade NY show.  Created by Jouer Cosmetics, it’s simple, and a simply lovely look.

Neil Scibelli, Jouer National Makeup Stylist created what he described as,

“inspired by Kate Spade’s hometown, New York City, during the ‘70s when Andy Warhol’s Factory and Studio 54 epitomized “party glamour.   The classic cat eye and red lip compliment the collection’s vivid color palette of NYC Citron, Empire Beige, Asphalt, Maraschino, Shocking Pink and Disco Purple.”

Luckily, we got the scoop on how Neil put the look together!

To begin, he used Jouer Matte Moisture Tint to create a clean and matte base for the skin, using Jouer Age-Repairing Concealer where needed. Brows were kept clean and groomed. I loved the little jewel on each of those killer pink nails.

For the eyes he used Jouer Powder Eyeshadow in Crème as an all over base, applying Jouer Powder Eyeshadow in Amaretto in the crease. He thickly lined the eyes with Jouer Liquid Shimmer Liner in Panther, extending and winging out.  He finished with Jouer Everyday Classic Wear Mascara.

For blush, he applied Jouer Tint in Honeysuckle on the apples of cheeks, blending outwards for a subtle pop of color. To finish the look he used a beautiful true red lip, Jouer’s Hydrating Lipstick in Simone, topped with Jouer’s Essential Lip Enhancer for extra shine.

Now I know a lot of skill went into the application, but this sounds like something simple enough that even I could try at home. I’ve long known the magic of the Jouer Matte Moisture Tint. It’s pretty much the best thing ever. Now I’ve just got to get brave with my eyeliner skills!
