This week’s Idea to Steal relates to a bit of a hot button issue, but it’s not my intention to stir up controversy. See, we have differing opinions in our household, as any healthy marriage between two passionate people should, but this is particularly stark when it pertains to the hottest topic of the day….guns.
Now, I don’t want to incite a debate about the merits of one position or another. I can only say, as someone less comfortable with the idea of guns in my home, that I just really love this:
A shotgun as dramatic coffee table art! Sadly, I have no idea where this is from, but I’m going to keep my eye out at every vintage shop and flea market I visit!
It seems like the perfect compromise, don’t you think??

Looks like some kind of musical instrument if you don’t really pay attention! 🙂
Yes, definitely the perfect compromise!
That is stunning. I love the idea of repurposing something so polarizing into a statement piece. We actually have a (dead) grande that I spray painted gold in our living room – it’s quite the conversation starter!
Very interesting, I think that would popular here in Houston!
Love the heaviness of the gun paired with framed butterflies on the wall!
This is a perfect idea! Having married a man from Oklahoma, his family certainly has a few shotguns. I love the idea of turning one of them into art. Thanks for sharing 🙂
You know, I don’t like guns as art but somehow this feels less in your face. I kinda dig it!

Good call Sarah – I think that’s I’m loving it so much – it’s the perfect contrast in a softer space!
Pretty clever! I didn’t even notice it was a shotgun at first.
I love this!
That is cool as all get-out. Even better than the AK-47 lamps!
As someone who has lost a family member to death by gunshot, I find any display of guns deeply upsetting. I do not know what I would do if I attended a function and found the space decorated with such an object.
