Just as we were talking about how much of an essential the coat is for fall, Burberry blew us away with an amazing show at London Fashion Week, proving that the coat is not only a statement maker for fall but all year round!

For their Spring 2013 show, Burberry took a coat with a boxy silhouette {no cinching waists with belts!} and cropped arm lengths and created the “it” dress for next Spring. With very minimal pieces peeking through- a button down and scarf here and there- it braves the line of chic and mysteriously revealing and I’m on the side of the former.

I’m obsessed with these looks. Yes, there are pastels in there, but they feel so fresh and new – I don’t think I can wait until spring for them. I can’t believe I’m saying it but I might just be convinced that I need to wear pastels. And coats as dresses? I’m on it.

So, what do you guys think of the coat as a dress? Is it something that you think us “normal” people can pull off without looking like we could open our jacket and give everyone a flash at any second? Would you wear this or is it a look that is only for the runway?

  1. I love this idea, as well as the cocoon cut of the coats! I’ve only worn a trench as a dress (belted), but I’m curious as to if I could pull this off. And I love how the pretty pastels make it more feminine than black.

  2. I am OBSESSED with coats. I have somewhere between 11-15 coats. My husband says I have too many, but with coats, there’s no such thing. That said, I always look at style and uniqueness. With these, it would be weird to me to have my cost not have any shape at all and no belt to help accentuate. I think it could a good idea for a nice dress/coat combo buuuut, I don’t like the execution.
