It’s a well documented fact that I love to shop. A power shopper you might say. But there is a significant difference between simply finding a new thing and going on a treasure hunt.

That difference starts with what you find at a big box store vs. a small business. As the success of Etsy proves there is a massive universe of Makers out there. But unlike Etsy, the store owner takes on the most challenging of rolls. They are often as interesting, if not more so, than the pieces they discover. The shopkeeper is the ultimate curator, brave enough to put their own economic welfare on the line in support of their passion. That is truly admirable and something that deserves the utmost respect, and even more importantly, our support. And I’m not just saying that because my family once owned its own small store in Seattle!

My passion for boutiques is why I’m excited to launch Retail Therapy; a new series profiling of shops that are doing extraordinary things. While it’s tempting to selfishly keep a great discovery under the radar, I know that the more people support their local boutiques, the longer they’ll be around for all of us to enjoy!

It only feels appropriate to kick things off with a local San Francisco find: Louesa Rosebuck. The “Foraged and Gleaned” flora shop is completely out of the ordinary. You’re not going to find a dozen roses here.

Nestled in Hayes Valley {right next to In Bed in fact} Louesa is where you go when you’re looking for amazing magonlia blooms, unique quince blossoms and massive hand forged concrete vases from a potter in Marin {above. I’m so coveting!}.

The purveyor of stunning blooms and a menagerie of unique finds, Louesa Rosebuck, embodies the eclectic feeling of her store. Her background is in fashion, retail and styling having worked for Bay-Area designer Erica Tanov and having her own East-Bay boutique for year.  She’s one of those people that seems to know anyone who is doing anything interesting! Now Louesa has an amazing network of foragers all around the Bay that she works with to find her plants {did you know there was such a thing! I consider myself educated}. But from textiles, to ceramics, to one of kind jewelry, you know you’re going to find something covetable every time you walk in her door.

I know I’ll regularly be checking in on Louesa’s newest finds! I hope if you’re in San Francisco or are visiting you will too.

Can’t wait to discover the next Retail Therapy destination {I’m lookin’ at you NYC!!!}.

Every fashion season I wait impatiently until the shows arrive in Paris. And this is not just because of the lines I dream about living in {Chloe, Dries, Isabel Marant & Celine} all present there.

I love the Paris shows because they also showcases the epitome of streetstyle chic. There’s much less peacocking for the cameras {as this article so aptly describes the sidewalk circus} and instead high fashion meets simplicity, sophistication and the concept of editing. The results always leave me clamouring for more.

Take, for example, one of my ultimate style muses, Yasmin Sewell.

There are a few core elements of Parisian streetstyle. Great tailoring, beautifully basic, yet still statement making coats. A neutral color palette is a must as well as a structured bag. But that doesn’t mean you can’t have a little fashion fun!

For example, sunglasses can be in all shades and shapes and worn whether the sun is actually shining or not! I’m loving the dramatic round frames trend above.

You can also play with prints and pattern. Stripes are a french classic, but I love the look of a print popping out from under a camel jacket. And you can never underestimate the power of a good trench. It is the style secret weapon. Wield it wisely.

I am going to keep my fashion sights square on french inspired style for the new season.

What do you think? Would you like to try Parisian Chic on for size??

Here’s to a classically chic week!

What’s better on a lazy Sunday afternoon than a bonus post! Last month we brought you a getaway straight from Sayulita, Mexico.  But sadly, as much as I’d like to be a jetsetter, glamorous trips are often few and far between. So I thought I’d fill the void by offering up the latest vacation destination on my dream list: Cuixmala.

I have a major soft spot in my heart for Mexico, but the resort at Cuixmala takes things to whole new level.

Once a private estate, Cuixmala sits on a 3 km stretch of beach about two and half hours south of Puerto Vallarta, on Mexico’s Pacific coast. It was originally built and remains an ecological preserve and the entire resort still prioritizes sustainability. Everything you eat is even grown on the property’s organic gardens!

And while I’m all for sustainability, I cannot tell a lie. I’m really a sucker for beautiful grounds, lush accommodations and stunning decor which Cuixmala appears to have in spades. Over 3Km of pristine beach, white-washed casitas are stunningly decorated, have private terraces just begging to be lounged in and obviously offer stellar views. Cuixmala is definitely speaking my language. I have a virtual bag already packed.

Spring break escape anyone?! Even though college days are long gone, I’m voting we bring this annual tradition back!! Who’s with me??
