While all-white interiors are a stalwart of Scandinavian design, as I sit in 20-something degree weather in Seattle, I’m finding myself drawn to cozier, more rustic versions of winter whites on white on white on white. I’m curious to see if you’re feeling this look too.

While there’s a bit of wabi-sabi to this look, key decisions keep the look from going to shabby chic. Modern light fixtures make a ton of difference. A classic Nelson saucer pendant lamp or maybe a vintage Noguchi (investment alert!) help keep the look current.

Clean modern lines juxtaposed with more traditional pieces mix for the perfect cozy, rather than sterile feel.

And all kinds of texture – knits, wools, linens, woods, hides, paneling, painted brick, exposed beams, they all combine to give you that nest-like feel.

People often lament that white furniture is highly impractical, but I actually beg to differ. With the invention of Oxyclean, you can get rid of just about any spill quickly and keep your whites bright for the long term.

I’m kicking off my first gift guide of the season with the design lover in mind. Self-serving perhaps? I call it strategic. I’m feeling a fresh, refined color palette for the holidays. Instead of decking your halls with the standard red and green, what if you tried a mix of white, gold and touches of warm gray instead?

The look is sophisticated, luxurious and refined. Using lots of white helps spaces feel open and airy – rather than overstuffed and cluttered. Touches of gold feel celebratory and festive. And warm gray tones add a bit of gravitas without being harsh.

I recently scoured Horchow and discovered a treasure trove of goodies at crazy good deals. The site features home decor, tableware, even gifts from some of my favorite lines, like Aerin, Palacek and of course Neiman Marcus (they’re part of the Neiman Marcus family of brands.) Starting tomorrow, you can save up to 40% off during their Finders Savers event.

I’d be thrilled if Santa put any of these pieces in his cart for me!

Yesterday we talked fall fashion. Today we have a moody fall mood board for your. While we may have a few more weeks to enjoy our typical Bay Area Indian Summer, we’re ready to stash the rosé for another day and uncork deep moody merlots. We’re also ready to say goodbye to bright summer colors and surround ourselves in dark classic colorways. And what’s more classic than black and white? From interior design to photgraphy, fashion or plating food, we will always die over this dynamic duo!

Now before you go running for the hills, let me just preface that I too was VERY skeptical of this color at first. I mean, the name itself sure isn’t doing the color any favors…Burnt…Orange? Sounds downright repulsive.

BUT with that being said, I challenge you to set aside your judgement for just a moment and allow me to make a case for this under-appreciated color. Sure, in fairness, perhaps burnt orange will never be “the new black” but it’s certainly worthy of some serious attention.

See? Not bad, huh? It gives off a 60’s Mod-vibe without feeling too dated or retro. Plus, when it’s in flowy lightweight fabric form it looks ultra-elegant and contemporary. Even when incorporated as a statement color into decor, it offers a healthy dose of character and an inviting sense of warmth.

Are you convinced? What are your thoughts on the color?

Red is one of those colors you either love or you hate. The right type of fiery personality struts it with confidence or splashes it about in their home decor. That said, we are not typcially that person {save a good red lipstick!}. But with a tinge of orange and a hint of rust, a fresh poppy hue has us rethinking our refusal to experiment with red really hard. It’s jolting without being offensive to the eyes and it’s subtle undertones make it surprisingly sophisticated. Best part is, you just need a pop of it!

What do you red-haters say? Good, right? Those shiny, lacquered cabinets really get us going {in a good way!} and those bold strokes in the abstract painting just bring it home. We also can never say no to a blood orange anything and juju hats in that same audacious color perfectly offset a super neutral room.

We have to say poppy may have just become our new bold obsession!

If you’re looking for a timeless color combo to get you through the winter doldrums, we’ve got you coverd. There’s something so classic and yet always alluring about {drum roll please….} camel and black!

We’re obsessed with how the honey and ochre undertones of camel pair perfectly with an inky, jet black. So obsessed, in fact, that we’d back our love for this rich and warm color combo over the reigning classic black and white any day. And this goes for both fashion and decor! But what’s that, you say? Hesitant about such a “standard” pairing? But this is a classic that will keep everyone coming back for more. We’re confident this evidence will change your mind!

So good, right? When it comes to personal style, camel and black is literally the easiest thing to wear. Throw on black jeans, booties, a black tee and a camel coat and…done! I always feel my post pulled together and confident in this uniform. Then you just sit back and wait for the compliments, becuase they will come. The same goes for the combo in your home. Black and camel feels sophisticated yet comfortable. It says you have style but you’re not trying to pretentious about it. It’s casual, calm and endlessly cool. It’s super his & hers friendly too. We say, never underestimate the power of a camel colored couch and black pillows!

What do you think? Has camel and black always been a go-to for you or is it just now winning over your hearts?
