When something appears in three’s it is a trend, or so they say. What does it mean when something pops up everywhere you freakin’ look? I call it a damn good idea. And right now that’s what I’m saying about daybeds!

What was once your grandmother’s decorating idea has gotten the cool girl stamp of approval and personally, I’m into the modern update on this old school idea. Just look at how much you can do with it.

Sure, couches serve their purpose. They’re a requirement for TV watching and the like, but a daybed feels so luxurious. It’s a place to lounge, relax, cozy up. Work from home? Doing so from a day bed suddenly makes the day’s to-do list feel less tedious.

I’m also smitten by the variety of style directions you can take with a daybed. There’s one for virtually every aesthetic out there. You can go modern, clean and crisp (like this one), totally boho (this one is good), or a try a mid century modern vibe (like this). And of course I’m in support of any excuse to add more pillows and throw blankets into the mix. Mudcloth heaven, here I come.

There’s also something overtly feminine about daybeds, don’t you think? Can you envision a guy ever sitting in one? I’m struggling. So go ahead, let him take over the couch and claim this space as your very own.

As we ready ourselves to move into the new house I’m plotting where a daybed could possibly fit. Perhaps the living room? Maybe the guest room? Maybe the nursery?? You’ll have to stay tuned to find out where I put one. Because this is a design idea bandwagon I’m jumping on with both feet!

There’s something to be said about a good old fashioned inspiration board. These days the majority of our messy, random, unfiltered tidbits of inspiration exist only in digital format. Despite Pinterest being a game-changer when it comes to bookmarking ideas {along with our poor, overworked and abused computer desktops!}, sometimes we find ourselves nostalgic for the tangibility and rawness of a physical mood board. That’s why when we saw this beautiful pegboard of earthy artifacts, we had to pin it {so very meta of us, right!?}.

idea-to-steal-peg-board

Pegboard makes for such unique idea boards because they encourage the display of physical artifacts {take THAT Pinterest!}. We love the 3D look of varying textures, shapes and forms {like plants!} clustered together to create an organic and no-fuss feel. Not to mention, the texture of the board itself {hello, perforation!} creates visual interest on an otherwise empty wall. We see a DIY coming on…

What do you think? Do you LOVE?

If you’re like us, you’re constantly looking for fresh ways to give your space an updated look. But unlike clothing, the whole “out with the old, in with the new” approach isn’t as practical or realistic when it comes to room decor. That’s why one of our go-to room makeover tricks is to play with rugs. We’re always adding or swapping them, but recently we’ve been kind of obsessed with layering them!

There are a few different approaches you can take when it comes to rug layering. First, there’s the tried and true combination of a bold patterned or textured rug with a neutral base. Layering also works when you take a more organic shaped piece {like a cowhide!} and pair it with a traditional rectangular rug {love this one!}. Another option is to choose rugs of various sizes and patterns, but that are of the same general color palate–like what’s happening in the image above. So good.

There’s no arguing gallery walls have been having a moment that’s lasted for what feels like centuries now. As long as you have a great collection of art, the look seriously never tires. However, we ALWAYS love to see a refreshing take on this tried and true trend—and this little gallery nook is the perfect example!

Why not make the most of those funky little nooks and crannies with a gallery wall? These small and wonky spaces often stump us when it comes to design, but filling them with artwork allows you to choose pieces of varying sizes and orientation to custom fit the wall {We’d start with something like this and then build out the wall with smaller muted pieces like this}.

Plus, this layout shakes up the look of a traditional gallery wall and adds some visual interest to an otherwise overlooked area {Insider Tip: Use butcher paper to serve as a template prior to hanging your art}. And perhaps most importantly, this makes for the perfect opportunity to peruse sites like Minted, Tappan Collective, and One Kings Lane for killer pieces of all types of art! Any excuse to do a little shopping, right?!

Whoever said that the lavatory is strictly a place for “business” was WAY off. This highly trafficked room deserves so much more. In a space that tends to be de-prioritized when it comes to decorating, we’re loving the idea of using artwork to elevate typical bathroom decor. In fact, we’d argue that the bathroom is a perfect place to display art! There’s always a “captive” audience, if you know what we mean.

art-in-the-bathroom-

We’re not suggesting you throw down mad cash for an original masterpiece here, but this is the perfect place to get a little experimental and peruse sources like eBay, Etsy or One Kings Lane for something inexpensive and interesting. If you’re really into this idea, you can even go for a mini gallery wall! In the end, it’s a simple way to give the bathroom the attention it deserves. After all, it’s always been there to help us take care of our dirty work.

What sort of interesting decor have you seen or chosen for a bathroom?? We’d love to hear more Ideas to Steal!

Fresh ideas on how to store magazines are always exciting. If you’re anything like us, they tend to pile up very very quickly. Yes, stacking them on the floor or on a chair {with objects and art on top of course} has been the super cool style for like…a year, last year to be exact! We’re loving the fresh idea of making use of all those ugly wire hangers you have lying around.

idea-to-steal-magazine-rack-1

As you should know by now, they should never be used to actually hang up your clothes, but when placed on an industrial rack, they can neatly and cleanly display all of those magazines that we just can not get rid of!

We’re obsessed with everything about how easy and modern this look is. Feel free to break up the structured vibe by adding your fave blouse or dress, hang up a killer mirror, or add a hanging wire light. Oh, and a hot Lenny Kravitz poster does not hurt. Nope, it does not hurt one bit!

What do you think? Are you as in love with this organization idea as much as we are?! We just need to find space for a clothes rack and we are finally getting those mags off of the floor!

Also, on another note, why is Lenny Kravitz still SO hot? Has this man not aged in two decades?! He just came out with his new album, “Strut”! Have you listened to it yet?? So good.

Everyone understands the importance of a good spring cleaning, but why only reserve a fresh start to once a year?? The change in weather already forces you to swap your shorts for sweaters so while you’re knee deep in your closet, might as well keep the momentum goin’, right? I, for one, know that my house needs a serious deep clean and this cute and simple Idea to Steal has me excited to purge and organize!

WardrobeOrganizing_walk-in-closet

I love the idea of using a super chic brass towel rack to organize your belts, jewelry and sunnies! These are some of the most awkward accessories to keep tidy. Belts don’t keep shape when you roll them, necklaces get tangled and sunnies just take up so much counter space. This simple fix would SO solve my problem of always hunting for my latest fave pair of sunglasses!

I know I’m not the only on out there with this problem. How do you manage all those random bits and baubles? If you need more Ideas to Steal to help organize your life, check them out here!

One of our favorite details from our Andiamo SF dinner party was a very special part of the place settings! You see, the entire dinner was very secretive- guests really had no idea what to expect walking up the dimly lit, unfinished stairwell into a newly opened event space. They hadn’t even fully grasped what the event was all about, let alone know who’d be sitting next to them at the table.

In order to continue the elusive {and fun!} experience going {which we were enjoying WAY too much btw!}, we wanted to stay away from the expected. We searched and searched for interesting ideas for every event detail. After rounds of brainstorming, we had a particularly fab ah-ha moment {an Idea to Steal, if you will!}. What if we could print out Instagrams and use them as incognito place cards?? Thankfully, with companies like Origrami, now you can!! So keeping with the travel theme, we raided our guests Instagram feeds to find images from their recent travels and Origrami printed them beautifully.

idea-to-steal-apartment-34-instagram-place-card

To turn them into place cards, we simply tied each stack together with leather cord {from the fabric store – hello DIY!} and instructed each guest to look for something “familiar” around the table! It was such a simple and elegant way to assign seats. It looked great, the leather made it sexy and it was so much fun watching guests “find” their spot! The best part was that the guests got to take their “place card” home as a memento. We even hung our own on our wall in the office!

Having these Instagrams was not only highly personal, but they were also a great way to conjure up funny travel stories. We had our guests write their most embarrassing travel memory, throw it in a basket and we shared them with the group anonymously – then we had to guess whose story it was!  We made sure to do this after the drink had been flowing and it was hi-larious!!

So for your next party, skip obvious name cards and have fun choosing multiple sizes and themes {our favorite? the retro print!} to print your Instagrams on from Origrami.  They’re great quality, affordable and Origrami offers free shipping worldwide. Rest assured that the prints will spark up your festivities – plus it’s just so cool to see your Instagrams in “real life” rather than on your phone. Now, there’s an Idea to Steal!

We’re big fans of making a statement down the aisle, so when we saw this wedding “bouquet” we thought it was the perfect fit for a bridal themed Idea to Steal. Have you ever seen an oversized bloom replace a classic bunch bouquet? We certainly hadn’t. And while traditional blooms are always nice, a singular ginormous protea is rather stunning – wouldn’t you agree?!

What are your thoughts on taking a single stem down the aisle? Is it artistic and bold or a statement to be filed under “things you wish you had done differently on your big day”- like that hairstyle your mom rocked at her wedding?!
