As soon as Fall officially hit last weekend {we even had our first major downpour!}, I ran straight to my closet to break out my favorite fall pieces. As I sifted through my sea of dark jeans, black coats and cream sweaters, things were looking a little too…shall I say predictable? Truth is, I’ve been dying to push my boundaries and try the new hot hue in town: oxblood.
Oxblood, maroon, wine, whatever you like to call it, it is technically not a neutral, but I’m here to convince you that it’s an incredibly wearable color that you’re going to want to get your hands on this season. I can attest, you’ll want to wear it with everything!
When looking to make my first wine-colored purchase, I was thrilled when I came across these {waxed!} skinnies. Talk about an upgrade from your basic jean. These have just the right amount of sheen and their extra stretch makes sure they hug in all of the right places, making a super chic foundation for a sophisticated Fall ensemble!
I liked the idea of pairing the oxblood with another great neutral: navy. The two dark colors together make a killer team. They have a similiar depth in tone and a richness that really compliment each other well. There’s no harsh break to the eye, just one smooth color-blocked palette. And you know me, I love a good turtleneck!
And of course, you have to top off the quintessential Fall ensemble with a great coat. A classic peacoat shape, lush plaid pattern and fabric like tweed or harringbone will bring in texture and add such a sophisticated look to your style. Try the streetstyle du jour – draping it on your shoulders! The architectural lines of a draped coat compliment your skinnies and make your stems appear to go on for days!
what i’m wearing: Old Navy Rockstar Skinny Jeans (on sale!!) // Zara Coat // Bowling Bag // Vince Pump // Zara Turtleneck // Sunglasses (similar)
It’s official, oxblood is my new “neutral” this season. It’s totally breaking me out of my comfort zone and dare I say, I really like it! Who knew I would be turning my back on basic black and opting for a little punch of color this Fall.
Now the question is, will you?

You bet they are! Thanks, Lesley!
you were right, totally love this look! I also love the two colours together. May just have to give it try! Perfect for fall.
I have these same skinnies and LOVE them – the fit is so perfect that I think they might be my most flattering pair! Adore how you’ve styled them here with a menswear-inspired coat…very chic!!

Oxblood was my favorite color for years when I was a teenager and then just disappeared from my favorite color list and also apparently the fashion world. I might be wrong but it seems to me, that wine-red wasn’t fashionable during many years, am I right? Or maybe I just missed a few seasons when it appeared now and then, until now. I thought, I would never again consider it a nice color (like orange), but never say never: I love it on you and maybe could imagine wearing it again 😉
Give it another try Sarah! And orange! Those colors, mixed with darker, heavier material, are great for fall.
So glam, Erin!
Love the color combo and the pants are fab!
work it girl! Looking fabulous! I got a pair of maroon coated skinnies from club monaco last year and love them! Time to break them out again. xx A
YES YES YES!!! you look incredible, love it! xx
Lovely photos, Erin!
I am all about oxblood this fall! Such a beautiful color and I love that you treated it as a neutral!
Love the color! We actually carry a premium knit cardigan, the Oona Wrap in Brandy Wine that women love. I agree it’s a great alternative to black. Black is my favorite color to wear as well but Oxblood and Wine are definitely classy colors for Fall.
