We all know one. Someone who is all about their job. Obsessed even. They might be hard persuade to meet up for happy hour, but thankfully they’re easy targets for Christmas shopping. You can make their work-focused lives a little more pleasant by helping them create a gorgeous work space. Not convinced? The new Kinfolk offices in Copenhagen are a shining example.

Yes, our beloved Kinfolk picked up from their Portland headquarters and moved to what could arguably be called the design capitol of the world. And it’s done them good. Their stunning modern, minimalist office is just so so good. It’s no surprise I love it – it’s designed by Norm Architects of course (if you missed my home tour of their founder you can check it out here). I’m a firm believe that a clutter-free space helps cultivate a clutter free mind and focused work environment.

Of course, Kinfolk keeps this sparse look to a whole new level and I don’t know if I could ever manage to be that buttoned up. Seriously – where do you put papers?? But it gives me something to aspire to. The space is also the inspiration for our latest gift guide. Imagine how good it would feel if your desk was a pristine clean slate, with only absolute necessities and maybe a pretty something or two. A desk calendar, a really good pen, a place to jot all the s*** you need to get done. But nothing more. I’m so into it. And now I’m thinking I need to grab of couple of this chic office accessories and redo my office for the new year!

If you’re looking for inspiration for a timeless holiday table, look no further. I am completely inspired by snowy white tablescapes at the moment – it’s the perfect way to create a modern, clean Christmas look.

fall-tablescape-2img_9779-m-konfirmasjon_edited-1

This ditch the kitsch idea has me ready to say buh-bye to all of my superfluous tableware. The stacks of random decorative dishes are getting a little out of control after all. There is no need for a collection of antique china, or a massive set of holiday-specific stuff to set a celebratory scene. You can in fact, festive up the essentials – white dishes, classic flatware and timeless linens. All you need to add is a touch of greenery, white tapers and some personal touches to make them all feel seasonal.

Replicating this look is easy thanks to the new home brand SNOWE. They can be your one stop shop for the quality pieces you know you should have invested in by now. Everything is designed with a minimalist sensibility and eliminates the paralysis of too much choice when it comes to stocking essentials. SNOWE’s founders,  Rachel Cohen and Andres Modak totally get it. Upon graduating from business school and moving back to NYC to set up their apartment, they realized that the world of home decor was overwhelming and cluttered. In response they got the idea to design and create the must-haves. As they explain:

“One night we’re throwing a dinner party. The next, we’re eating cereal on the couch. And through it all, we want to be surrounded by quality and thoughtful design that’s also attainable. And that’s why we created SNOWE: to bring people everywhere home essentials made from the best materials in the world, thoughtfully designed to be used over and over, for every moment and milestone.”

SNOWE’s dinnerware comes in timeless white (white dishes are known to make food look more appetizing) and made of the highest quality Limoges porcelain – it’s known to be super durable. Glassware is all made in Italy. I’m obsessed with the Essential Glass. There’s something about drinking wine out of a more utilitarian, stemless glass that makes it feel modern. Kind of European. I’m into it. Also, this dine and serve starter set is particularly tailor-made for a house-warming or wedding present. It’s kind of making me want to ditch all of my current stuff and restock my kitchen. SNOWE also offers bath goods and bedding that are all simple and streamlined by design — and available in sets — but a serious step up in quality then you get in places like giant blue box stores that shall not be named.

But back to your holiday table. If you need to build out your set of stemware to host a party of more than four, or make sure you have proper linens in your arsenal (because everyone should), there is no better time to ensure you – or your friends – are ready to play host. I’ve got my eye on this set of grey carafes and essential, use-for-anything-you’re-drinking, glasses. They’d add a bit of texture to a holiday table without being overwhelming. Whether you are looking for a hostess gift or need to up your own tabletop game, you will definitely find what you need with SNOWE. As they say themselves, SNOWE is meant to offer “everything you need and nothing you don’t.” I’ve selected my favorite picks from SNOWE for all the dinner-party throwers out there. These would be the perfect pieces to give to others or grab to get you through the entertaining season looking like you have your s*** together.

Holiday shopping is always fun, but shopping for little people takes it to a whole new level. Whether it’s for my own kiddo or for those of friends – so many expectant ladies at the moment – there’s something irresistible about things in miniature form. As a lover of neutrals, I’m here to prove that you can find things your children will love without resorting to crayola colors.

I know it’s time to buy things for other people, but admit it. You use Cyber Monday to add a few little things to your cart for yourself. Am I right, or am I right? Well I’ve been stalking the interwebs all day for the best steals, whittling it down to what I’ll be putting in my cart tonight once the babe is in bed and wine is in my hand!

Getting ahead of holiday shopping can be a little overwhelming. The lists get long. The stores get crowded. Time gets short. And does Dad really need another pair of socks or a men’s nail trimming kit yet again? I don’t think so. So this year, I’m taking a more creative approach. Now that I’ve got a little one, he’s the gift-for-grandparents jackpot. Never being one to do much in the DIY department, when it comes to creating personal gifts, it can be hard to know where to start. Thankfully, the internet has given rise to professionals who can figure these things out for you.

apt34_mpix2

Enter Mpix. Having just returned from our Hawaiian vacation, what better way to capture those memories than to get them off my phone and turned into something tangible? Mpix is a professional photography lab that’s been family owned and operated in the heart of the mid-west for 75 years. Now they offer their photography printing services to the masses in the form of cards, home decor, gifts and photobooks.

apt34_mpix6

This is a DIY novice’s dream come true. I could quickly upload images to the Mpix secure photo gallery, select from a variety of pre-designed book layouts, et voila; grandparent holiday gift gold. It didn’t take me long to figure out their online editing tools. There were a couple of images that printed across the fold so you’ll want to triple check your placements. But with easy zoom and cropping, you can find the perfect spot for each image.

The best part? The books ship to you in 24-48 hours. I’ve never gotten a photo print product back that quickly. Perfect for my last-second tendencies.

With most of our lives being captured electronically these days, it’s interesting to think about our kids growing up without having pictures to flip through. But it’s by looking through photos and telling (and retelling and retelling) stories that help children cement their memories. Now that I know it’s so easy to create keepsakes like this, I think I might start my own photo album collection. No glue sticks necessary.

I’m kicking off my first gift guide of the season with the design lover in mind. Self-serving perhaps? I call it strategic. I’m feeling a fresh, refined color palette for the holidays. Instead of decking your halls with the standard red and green, what if you tried a mix of white, gold and touches of warm gray instead?

2207001999_4_1_1colonial-living-room2307002999_4_1_1

The look is sophisticated, luxurious and refined. Using lots of white helps spaces feel open and airy – rather than overstuffed and cluttered. Touches of gold feel celebratory and festive. And warm gray tones add a bit of gravitas without being harsh.

I recently scoured Horchow and discovered a treasure trove of goodies at crazy good deals. The site features home decor, tableware, even gifts from some of my favorite lines, like Aerin, Palacek and of course Neiman Marcus (they’re part of the Neiman Marcus family of brands.) Starting tomorrow, you can save up to 40% off during their Finders Savers event.

I’d be thrilled if Santa put any of these pieces in his cart for me!

Whether you’re going to a birthday party, barbecue bash or partaking in a “let’s get together for no reason” gathering, proper manners say you should always come to someone else’s home bearing a gift. After all of the hours cleaning, prepping and cooking, nothing makes a host or hostess feel more appreciated. Sure, a bottle of wine is nice, but it’s also soooo boring. This summer, think beyond the rosé. Instead, here are some unique gift ideas guaranteed to make your host say, “haaaaay!!”.
