As we scroll our Pinterest feeds and catch up on our favorite blogs this time of year, it seems the most elaborate ideas for gift wrapping just cascade down the screen, like snowflakes falling on a winter’s day. And while we appreciate a good DIY {hand-made shibori papers anyone? dip dyed gift tags? let’s not forget about the wonders of washi tape!}, with this year’s schedule {hello house! hello baby!} and only three weeks until Christmas, we can already count on wrapping presents Christmas Eve!

Let’s be real, the holiday sneaks up on the best of us and between decorating, hosting, toasting and oh yeah, shopping for the perfect presents, on top of all of life’s daily duties, we wanted to wrap up our gifts {and the year!} with something simple, beautiful and most importantly, pretty dang easy!  One of the simplest {and seriously stunning!} ways to do that is to select a gift wrapping theme and stick with it. Trust us, it’ll be anything but boring!!

Start by selecting your preferred color palette. Color themes add cohesiveness and simplicity to tinsel and garlands and ribbons {oh my!}. We’re in love with the idea of putting a modern spin on holiday decor, so we wrapped our presents up in a crisp white and blue color palette that has us dreaming of a winter wonderland!

With ombre blue and gold starburst wrapping paper as our base, we had tons of fun playing with tone and texture. By mixing in jeweled blues, deep navy, soft gray and of course, silver and gold accents to “holiday” everything up, the whole setting feels incredibly festive, don’t you think?

We also played with nontraditional accoutrements. It’s kinda my favorite part. Forget sticking to stick-on bows {though we totally used some of them too! Do you put scotch tape on the bottom of yours and then save them so you can reuse them year after year? Yeah, totally learned that trick from my mom!}. But back to other package accessories.

Feathers add a bit of drama and flair and are an easy escape route from perfecting ribbon tying. Another alternative to tons of ribbon? Ornaments! Picked right off our trees, adding a cluster of small ornaments or one big one for impact added a glam element to our stack of gifts. When you string an ornament onto your gift tag, you have yourself a stunner so pretty it’ll be hard for the special recipient to rip it open!

If you’re looking to add a glamorous touch to your decor, a black, gold and copper color palette is a must! We snagged black and white striped wrapping paper {mix and match stripe widths for a chic play on print on print!}, black & white geometric paper and of course, some super glossy gold and copper paper for a little glitz! Mixed in with petite crisp bows, dramatic black ribbon and metallic string snagged at our local craft store, we went to town creating a bold, luxurious scene!

gift-wrap-ideas-15gift-wrap-ideas-12

Since the patterns of these black and white papers really make a statement on their own, we stuck to classic silk ribbons, simple bows – they kinda have a Kate Spade vibe- and even left a couple packages with only a gift tag! We chose a consistent color palette for our ribbons as well, including black, metallics and smoky gray to add an elevated glamour to the look. Our one exception was a geo-print ribbon that added a little extra zing to the already dramatic pattern play. We really just wanted any excuse to go into the craft store and peruse the aisle of ribbons! It’s such a treat to shop fun and gorgeous ribbons, isn’t it? Why is that?!

And don’t forget that presentation is everything, but that doesn’t only apply to presents themselves. Glam up the ground and the area around your gifts with glitzy garlands and faux fur rugs, drizzle ornaments throughout and deck your floor with paper confetti or tinsel! And can we talk about how obsessed we are over these adorable artificial white LED trees from West Elm {that are on sale right now}?! The added layers and textures really make for a complete package!

We’re definitely feelin’ the holiday spirit after our gift wrapping marathon! We’ll be back later this week for a few more wrapping tips, including how to tie a ribbon without any cuts or twists! We swear it’s not magic- well, kinda. But for now, we wanna know: which theme might you deck the halls in this year?

LET THE GIFTING BEGIN!

Unless you’ve been living under an online rock, you’re probably very familiar with the amazingness that is Sarah Sherman Samuel. Not only is she the founder of the {gorgeous!} inspirational blog, Smitten Studio, she also has a enviable eye for design {have you seen her house AND her cabin on Instagram?! Swoon} and is the owner and creative director behind her decor brand, A Sunny Afternoon. Known for her super chic cutting boards and printed napkins, anything Sarah touches is gold which is why, when we were thinking of something kitchen related for our Holiday Boutique, she immediately sprang to mind!

We worked with Sarah to create a custom two-toned  board out of a gorgeous maple and walnut – just for us! When we said we wanted a fun shape with a simple and timeless detail we had no idea just how spot on she was going to nail this one. We’re obsessed with the unique octagonal design and the color blocked effect. It looks gorgeous styled on a shelf next to your display of pretties; ceramics collection, candlesticks or plates would all be lovely. It will also add an extra oomph of design flare to your next dinner party- place your favorite cheese on it and bam, you’ve made a statement.

And the cutest part? Sarah works with her dad on these- sawing, sanding and staining each by hand. You can feel the love in each board, making it the THE gift for someone you adore this holiday season.

Ok, you really don’t have to buy this serving board for the cute cook in your life. You can buy it for yourself {shhh! we won’t tell anybody. we did it too!}. We’re certain, kitchen lover or not, if you at all enjoy the pretty things in life, you’ll die over this limited edition {there’s only 25!!} board. It’s the perfect addition to your collection of items that will last you a lifetime!

After we got our feet wet with our first DIY {remember my office closet makeover?}, we knew there was no stopping us! Sure, I’m light years away from becoming a mini-Martha, but I’m currently having a lot more fun perusing the craft aisle now. And since I’m package obsessed {yes, I’ll buy that $8 chocolate bar because it has a cute label!}, I thought why not try a more modern take on gift wrapping this Christmas!

While there are great shimmery gift wrap options at the stores, sometimes they feel a bit repetitive, right? We wanted something unique. A present that involves a little bit more love to put together, but is totally worth it. So get a-goin’ to the craft store because this year, we’re color-blocking our gifts and you should too!

color-block-gift-wrapcolor-block-gift-wrap-3

We wanted to pick a singular color palette that had a nod to traditional Christmas colors but felt a little more sophisticated and that could be used all year round. So, we picked green as our starting point in the paper aisle. We chose a rich forest green, added in a light minty-green and mixed in slate grey and black to add a touch of glamour. You’ll want a palette that will compliment your tree or decor {this palette is a great neutral one!} but have fun with it- Christmas no longer has to be red, grass green and white!

color-block-diycolor-block-gift-wrap-2

Once you choose your paper, all you’ll need is pretty ribbon options {we went for a thin gold wire, black and white twine and a thick green ribbon with a metallic border}, scissors and tape! The easiest way to achieve the color block look is by wrapping the gift 50/50- one side one color, the other side another. But you can get creative- try using three colors or our favorite: setting colors on a diagonal line!

color-block-gift-wrap-4

Your friends will seriously be impressed with your gift wrapping skills this giving season if you present them with a present that looks this good. But just be careful because you know when a package is too pretty to rip open? Yeah…that might happen!

Happy wrapping!!

There’s no denying, even for a scared-of-sequins girl like myself, that the holidays just aren’t the same without some serious sparkle. Glittery ornaments glisten, trees twinkle and party dresses shimmer under candlelight, so it’s a must that your cocktails do the same!

Obviously – that’s why champagne is the star of the holiday cocktail season. Champagne bubbles shimmer and its golden hue shines like no other. And while a glass of bubbly is always a classy and well received option, why not offer your guests something just as fizzy and fabulous, but a little gussied up? Our Sparkling Raspberry Cocktail is just the ticket – and we swear, it is as delicious as it looks!

Sparkling Raspberry Cocktail Recipe

Ingredients:
1 bottle Champagne
1 cup raspberries
Dash of St. Germain
Sugared Raspberries

Blend raspberries in a blender. Once blended, pour the raspberries into a fine strainer, encouraging them through. This is your raspberry puree. Add two tablespoons of puree to each glass. Then, add a splash of St. Germain and top off each glass with Champagne. Garnish the rim of each glass with a sugared raspberry.

Sugared Raspberries Recipe

Ingredients:
1 egg white
1/2 cup raspberries
1/4 cup sanding sugar

Whip the egg white and then brush a thin layer on each raspberry. Pour the sanding sugar in a bowl. Roll the raspberry in the sugar, coating evenly. Place the berries on a plate and allow them to dry for 1-2 hours.

After a restful weekend, just thinking about throwing a little shindig featuring this cocktail is making it difficult to get through the work day. I don’t know about you guys, but I have serious holiday fever. You know, when you want to skip out of work for the entire month of December? Hopefully a few more fabulous holiday parties, complete with Raspberry Champagne Cocktails, will get me through!

Cheers to that!!

If you were doing some shopping this week, you may have stumbled upon little ol’ me on the Barneys New York website {eek!}. For the second year in a row now, I’ve been honored to be a part of Barneys’ holiday line-up, this time along side fabulous maker Eye Swoon and party shaker Mrs. Lilien, sharing our most swoon worthy gifts!

This list came in the nick of time. Last week I was freaking out about finding a gown to wear to the black tie company holiday party I attended over the weekend, but I was doubly freaking out about presenting the hostess with the ultimate gift! I realized how stressful it could be to shop for a haute hostess of a party of this caliber. I mean, an affair this grand is already intimidating enough and much like any holiday party, chocolates and liquors are quickly lost in the shuffle. Thankfully any of the picks on this list would do!

If you bring any of these stand-out gifts, your potential for a bonus won’t go overlooked. A brass bottle opener or pair of smokey and seductive wine glasses will leave a lasting impression on the host than any bottle of wine could ever leave {even if it’s a good vintage!}.

And while I would graciously invite anyone inside who showed up at the doorstep with said gifts in hand, I’d also be smitten over this tray that Athena picked out and giddy if Mrs. Lilien herself brought me this lipstick for a must-do touch up in between cocktails!

Now the question is, what will you be bringing to the party for your hostess with the mostess? And perhaps, more importantly, what will you be wearing?! You can check out the gown that I wore on Instagram here!

It’s admittedly more difficult to shop for men. They usually don’t feel the need to fill up the closet nor do they have a long list of wants that they’ve pinned and emailed out to their contacts. So what do you get the guy who is all about life’s basics?? You know the no fuss, no frills man who works hard everyday, often in a suit and tie.

Well, you get him some of these classic accessories of course!

Every business man needs an assortment of ties for work, meetings and even parties. This Saint Laurent tie is a classic style and in a color that every man loves. If your Wall Street Wannabe is a bit more daring, opt for the bow tie instead– it’s fun and confident! And I say everyone could benefit from a phone juice pack but it’s especially the perfect gift for the man who works long hours at the office and is constantly on business calls. Ensure his phone never dies on him again with this one.

If you need more gift ideas for your guy, be sure to check these out!

Do you need help finding that gift for the perfect hostess in your life? The one that seems to have everything under control at all times and already owns anything that she may need? Well, we realized we needed help buying for her too. For today’s gift guide, we rounded up fail proof gifts for this Gwyneth Paltrow-Wannabe!

This girl comes home from yoga, whips up a beautifully healthy meal for her family, serves it on a coveted platter all while having the perfect sun kissed and rested glow. She loves to cook and entertain. Having a spotless home is her forte and she really isn’t in need of a whole lot. Sound familiar to you yet? Well, there are still gorgeous gifts and thoughtful presents out there that will make her squeal with excitement!

This copper teakettle is one of them. Sure she has a teakettle already but I bet it’s not as beautiful as this one! She’ll donate her old one in a jiffy because it just can’t sparkle up the stovetop like this beaut can! Our girl lives in comfy {cashmere!} sweaters all winter long, so why not get her something you know she’ll love like this soft alpaca turtleneck. And if those don’t make the cut for the girl who has everything, then making an everyday essential special will. A monogramed cutting board for Christmas has her name written all over it {literaly!}.

And perhaps you have a little Gwyneth in you? I won’t lie – I often bite Gwenie’s style. Whether it’s cooking from her book or being inspired by her classic approach to fashion, I’d gladly give or receive anything from this list!

What do you have your eye on?

Yesterday we kicked off our Wannabe Gift Guide series with a collection for the wannabe glamazon in our lives. Today we’re taking on the rugged Jake Gyllenhaal enthusiast.

Although he may not admit it, this man totally wishes he was Jake in his latest movie Prisoners {if you like thrillers or more importantly, like Jake in a police uniform, this is a must see!}. Our guy is a city slicker that dreams of living out in the wilderness. He looks for quality, supports American-made and handmade is a bonus. If we had three words: whisky, boots and beards sum this wannabe up pretty well!

Here’s what to get him:

If you happen to live with this guy, do yourself and him a favor by adding this Burl Wood Bottle Opener to your bar! It’s masculine, glamorous and dreamy all at the same time.

Our Jake-wannabe is also likely planning a big hike or a trip to the snow with his buddies. This no-fuss backpack will keep all of his belongings in one place and he’ll thank you for it. While you’re at it, he’ll appreciate the craftsmanship that went into this hand-carved razor set and be able to use it for years to come!

Men, there is no shame in being a Jake Gyllenhaal wannabe {believe us!}. But perhaps you’re more of the straight forward business guy? That guide is still to come. Tomorrow get ready to shop for the super chic hostess of the family!
