Oh Italy. My love affair with you is longstanding. I first toured you at 17 and knew I was hooked. I had a smile on my face every day that I studied abroad in Siena. Italy made our honeymoon extra special. So whenever a trip to Italy presents itself, you say yes. Which is why I was Italia-bound last month. Upon touchdown in Milan, I was whisked an hour away to a hidden gem I had never heard of before, but to which I’m already plotting my return: Franciacorta.

apt34_franciacorta-20

Tucked against the foothills of Dolomites in the Lombardy region, Franciacorta sits on the southern edge of Lago d’Iseo (think Lake Como but smaller and less tourist packed!). Everywhere you look, things are lush with forests, rolling hills and of course covered in vineyards. Because really all of Italy seems to be wine country of some form or another, but Franciacorta is special. Kind of Italy’s best kept secret in fact. Franciacorta is home to some of the world’s finest sparkling wine – called Franciacorta of course. And you know mama likes bubbly!

apt34_franciacorta-15apt34_franciacorta-14apt34_franciacorta-28apt34_franciacorta-27apt34_franciacorta-19

Franciacorta is particularly special because of the way the wine is made. Like its bubbly cousin from France (which shall not be named), Franciacorta gets its bubbles from the “classic” wine making process. For the wine geeks out there (like me – I love this stuff!), that means Franciacorta doesn’t do its secondary fermentation (sitting on yeast and sugar called the tirage) en masse in giant steel tanks like Prosecco or Spumante. Instead, Franciacorta gets its delightful little bubbles after it ferments first in either steel or oak barrels and then goes through its second round of fermentation in the individual bottle. The entire wine-making process in Franciacorta is actually highly regulated to maintain the highest levels of quality. Wines must be aged for a minimum of 18 months, while some of the finest are aged for up to 60 months or even longer. That’s a very long time in wine years. Wine makers in Franciacorta take painstaking care of their wines – many using age-old traditional processes like riddling bottles by hand. Also, of the 115 producers in the region, more than half use organic farming practices. Color me impressed.

But back to our trip. In 72 jam packed hours, we were given the ultimate Franciacorta tour. We tasted Franciacorta upon Franciacorta upon Franciacorta, dined al fresco on five course lunches, learned to make homemade pasta, rode horseback through vineyards, took a sunset boat cruise, enjoyed a nature walk, toured a 1,000 year old monastery, sat pool-side with more Franciacorta and then had more amazing food and then more food and more Franciacorta. Aka, it was 72 hours of heaven. But there’s so much to do in this lovely region that even if you aren’t into wine, you can still have an amazing time.

apt34_franciacorta_poolapt34_franciacorta-18apt34_franciacorta-17apt34_franciacorta-21

We were only able to visit a small sampling of the region’s wineries, but whether we were trying Blanc de Blanc, a very dry light bubbly, Satén with a finer carbonation and satin like quality on the palette, or sipping on the sparkling rosés, I loved them all. The wineries themselves were also gorgeous. Every one was completely different from the next. Corte Bianca featured stunning modern design (more coming in an entirely separate post – it was so good). Others, like the sprawling Mosnel were over 250 years old with wine cellars housing over 100,000 bottles. I was simultaneously in awe over the wine making process and all the amazing spaces.

An evening on Lago d’Iseo – the lake with largest inhabited lake island in the world – was a little slice of magic.

I’ll spare you a picture of me actually on the horse.

This was my first major trip since becoming a mama and it was the perfect way to satisfy my wanderlust. Well, not really. Because now all I want to do is go back!

WHERE TO STAY: Le Quattro Terre – a lovely agriturismo, with simple chic rooms, delicious breakfasts and sprawling grounds

WHERE TO WINE TASTE: You really can’t go wrong with any Franciacorta winery you try, but I loved La Valle, Corte Bianca, Enrico Gatti and Cavalleri

WHERE TO EAT: We had amazing meals at Locanda al Lago on Lake Iseo as well as at a stunning historic villa, Villa Calini

THINGS TO DO: Boat tours of Lago d’ Iseo, visit the Monastero S. Pietro in Lamosa, take a nature walk in the preserve Le Torbiere, horseback ride through vineyards with Scuderia Crazy Horse, or take a cooking class before you wine taste at Mosnel

Have you ever been steamrolling through your days, weeks, even months, only to feel like you’ve hit a wall? Like you wish you could check out of your responsibilities even for just one day? I think we can all relate to that feeling. But it can often be nearly impossible to squeeze a break into life’s daily grind.

But this being #TheYearOfErin (reminder on what the heck I’m talking about here), I was determined to carve out a little recharge time this summer – even if only for 24 hours. Thankfully, my friends at American Express Platinum challenged me to craft a dream experience relying on all of their amazing Platinum Card benefits and the idea for the ultimate Lady-Boss Day Off was born.

apt34ladybossdayoff

The mission? To treat some really amazing lady-boss friends who inspire me daily with their creativity, generous spirit, and all around bad-assness (it’s a word, I swear) to a well-deserved escape – in the middle of  a work week! Playing hookie is the ultimate luxury after all. Thankfully, being based in San Francisco makes an escape relatively easy as we have a veritable playground right in the city’s backyard. It’s called Napa.

This very special day off needed to include three things – major pampering, seriously good eats and something truly unique. Thankfully, the American Express Platinum Card makes travel easy. The American Express Platinum Concierge – the amazing service you enjoy as a Card Member where you can call and have almost any travel planning need taken care of  – came to my rescue. With the help of the concierge I was able to put together a pitch perfect 24 hours in Napa. Our stay included wine tasting, a night at a beautiful wine country hotel, dinner at a leading Napa restaurant and…a hot air balloon ride! Don’t worry, we took a lot of snaps of it all for you.

IMG_7171IMG_1438

one of my favorite places to enjoy amazing wine in a picture perfect setting – Frog’s Leap Winery

We kicked our escape off right – with a private wine tasting in the stunning gardens of Frogs Leap Winery. An organic, dry farmed winery, Frog’s Leap takes an old world approach to wine making with stellar results. And lounging in lush gardens, crisp rosé in hand is really the perfect way to begin to unwind.

After enjoying the fruits of Frogs Leap’s labor, it was time to check the second to-do off our agenda: Pool time! We were lucky enough to stay at the ultimate Napa escape – the Meadowood Resort (I’ve shared my obsession with the property before here). There’s certainly no better way to feel like a princess for a day then to stay there. The Meadowood also happens to be part of American Express Platinum FINE HOTELS & RESORTS which, when booked through American Express Platinum, offers Card Members perks like complimentary room upgrades or a spa credit! Hello massage, come to mama.

apt34-ladybossdayoff

The newly renovated Meadowood Spa is a must visit. The gorgeous design is equaled by the knowledgable staff and fantastic treatments. I treated myself to an oxygen facial. I swear my skin glowed for days

To cap off a lovely day, we put on our fancy shoes and headed to dinner, Solbar at the Solage Resort. Seated at the chef’s table – which the American Express concierge also arranged – we enjoyed a stellar menu. It was one of those top 10 dinners you’ll remember for quite some time!

But the ladies still had to get their rest because we had to get up at the crack of dawn – well before it actually. It was the first time I’d seen 4:30am since my kiddo started sleeping through the night, but it was well worth it because we took a hot air balloon ride! It was as magical as I always thought it would be.

photos thanks to my fellow lady bosses who you should all follow on instagram @caitlinflemming @honestlywtf @margaretelizabeth @aubriepick @shopsweetthings @nataliebdesigns @emthegem

We really couldn’t have packed more into one day. I didn’t even mention all the great conversation, laughter and trading of entrepreneurial war stories that went on. And while I loved the amazing wine, the cushy hotel bed and the luxury spa treatment, what I really enjoyed most was the company. I’ve come to cherish the women I’ve met through this crazy world of blogging more than most of them would ever realize. These fellow women makers, doers, dreamers and all around ass-kickers are such a continual inspiration.

Because some days it can be hard to feel like you’re good enough to make it. You begin to question your own ideas, abilities or compare yourself to the success of others. But when you surround yourself with other female entrepreneurs whose drive is as strong as their desire to uplift, collaborate and help those around them, it’s a wonderful reminder that we are, in fact, all in this together. Everyone succeeds when we lift one another up. It’s what made me fall in love with the unique challenge of carving out your place in the world and it’s what has kept me here for so long.

I cannot thank Caitlin, Erica, Aubrie, Natalie, Jeanne, Meg, Emily & Kristin enough for reminding me the true value of building connections that go far beyond business and for going on a crazy adventure with me.

Here’s to making the Lady-Boss Day Off an annual celebration! Be sure to take a peek at #ladybossdayoff on Instagram for the amazing pics from the most epic of 24 hours.

I know, I’m one of those people. One of those weird people who will actually determine my dream travel destination not by the locale itself, but by where I can stay! I’m sorry but aesthetics are important to me people. After about nine years here at Apt34, I think we’ve established that. Which is why Philadelphia has suddenly sprung to the top of my must-visit list. Yes, I’ve actually heard great things about the city for awhile now, and it is the birthplace of our entire nation, but really, it’s all about this stunning Airbnb!

I mean, just look at this space.

Set in a Rittenhouse xxx, this apartment is absolutely stunning. And it’s easy to understand why  – it’s owned and designed by the styling and interiors powerhouse couple Tara Mangini and Percy Bright behind Jersey Ice Cream Co. You may have spotted their work here or seen this interview with Tara and Percy here.

The duo have a decidedly old world style. Every space they put together has a thoughtful patina mixed with timeless design elements. They tend to do a lot of cottages and country kitchens, but there’s an aire of restraint and sophistication that I really appreciate – even with all the vintage bobbles lying around. But this all white dream room is screaming my name. The minimalism, yet cozy warmth is phenomenal, thanks to the refinished original hardwood floors, the restoration of beautiful molding and addition of paneling, the lux creamy textiles. And don’t even get me started about that pitch perfect kitchenette. Gold hardware and copper pots pop against the neutral walls and raw pine cabinetry.

This little apartment is so perfect as a vacation spot because no one could actually live a normal life in an all-white space like this. But oh to lay my head there for just a day or two and dream of the days before kids, dirt and clutter began to invade my world. I don’t even really care what there is to do in Philadelphia because I’m pretty sure I would just sit on this apartment’s private roof deck from dawn till dusk – save all the naps I would take in that bed and the bath I would enjoy in the claw-foot tub.

Ok, I’m booking my ticket as I type….

Now that we’re in the heart of the summer season, travel is all I can really think dream about. While I’m not actually heading to any exotic locales anytime soon, I just keep adding to my wishlist. Today I have Mexico on my mind. Particularly Mexico City. Have you noticed how it’s been popping up everywhere lately? The New York Times, Instagram, blogger trips. Apparently, Mexico City is having a major moment.

Color me intrigued!

After doing just a quickie internet search, I can see why. The hotels, the art scene, the food…Everything in Mexico City is going off right now. Here are just a few examples.

apt34-mexico city

There are stunning places to stay in cool Mexico City neighborhoods like Hotel Condesa df  (above) or La Valise Hotel that features just three beautifully appointed suites, both in the Colonia Roma district.

Mexico City has the old world charm wrapped within the hum a modern metropolis that is pulsating with art, culture and innovation. While I’m not hopping a plane anytime soon (wah!), I am taking inspiration from the Mexico City vibe to add a fun summer accessory to my world. Any of the goodies below would immediately add a little bit of that colorful Mexican spirit and make me crave a really good margarita (you can actually see my favorite recipe for that right here).

I typically reserve my wanderlusting for far-flung destinations that involve golden beaches and tropical beverages. That said, I’m a sucker for an amazing hotel, no matter its location – even if it is my hometown of Seattle! This is definitely the case with the recently opened hotel Palladian – a uniquely modern retreat in a historic building in the city’s downtown – it is a design darling.

apt34-palladian2

Designed by a fave Bay Area-based design firm NICOLE HOLLIS, the charm of the Palladian is in the details. Even though the Nicole Hollis team is from San Francisco they looked to Seattle for inspiration, from the moody color palettes that reflect the all-too-often gray skies to the use of materials that give a nod to the city’s timber trade and gold rush eras.

Each of the 97 rooms in the boutique hotel were designed with the comforts of home in mind – it’s all just much cooler looking than anything you’re likely to actually have at home. For example, the custom platform beds feature massive reclaimed wood headboards with brass rivets and inset shelving that house reading material and old-school manual clocks. The rooms are dotted with vintage city maps and works by local artists and crazy cool throw pillows featuring famous faces adorn the beds (did you spy Tom Selleck above? You might get to snuggle David Bowie, David Haselhoff and Bill Murray too. I got Leo DiCaprio during my stay).

The Palladian, A Kimpton Hotel, Seattle. Designed by Nicole Hollis. The Palladian, A Kimpton Hotel, Seattle. Designed by Nicole Hollis.

The bathrooms are framed by steel barn doors (a cool space-saving tactic you could totally apply at home) and feature classic hexagonal tiles, brass vanity stands and vintage inspired mirrors with bass ledges – I’m obsessed! The larger suites have walk-in showers with classic claw foot tubs. Swoon.

The Palladian, A Kimpton Hotel, Seattle. Designed by Nicole Hollis. The Palladian, A Kimpton Hotel, Seattle. Designed by Nicole Hollis.

The Palladian’s presidential suite takes things a step further. It features a dining room, living area and kickass bar. (I spy Lostine bar stools and Seattle-based Ladies & Gentlemen Studio pendants – I adore both of those lines!)

The Palladian, A Kimpton Hotel, Seattle. Designed by Nicole Hollis.

Inspired by artists’ lofts, the rooms have residential touches including crisp white Frette bed linens, antique area rugs, custom desks, leather sling chairs and curated accessories such as leather-bound books and old-fashioned telephones. TVs are set in custom-made wood artist easels. Warning, you may just want to hang out in your room for your entire visit.

The Palladian, A Kimpton Hotel, Seattle. Designed by Nicole Hollis. The Palladian, A Kimpton Hotel, Seattle. Designed by Nicole Hollis. The Palladian, A Kimpton Hotel, Seattle. Designed by Nicole Hollis.

The Palladian also makes a statement the moment you walk in. The lobby has a “speakeasy” vibe with leather banquettes, velvet upholstery and metallic accents. In keeping with the 1910 building’s history, the original terrazzo floors were restored. A tufted-leather library check-in adds the masculine elegance of a Chesterfield sofa and the architectural fireplace surround and curated collection of antique books and vintage accessories create a homey feel. One of my favorite details are the Seattle icons dotted throughout the lobby including “portraits” of Bill Gates, Dr. Fraiser Crane, Dave Mathews and Jimi Hendrix.

From top to bottom the Palladian is spot on. It’s no wonder that the hotel is featured in the new design book Kaleidoscope: Living in Color and Patterns. It’s a book dedicated to expressive interiors and the Palladian definitely has a lot to say.

So if you’re still looking for a summer escape, I would encourage you to consider Seattle. With its crazy good food scene, booming downtown, gorgeous waterfront and stellar coffee on every corner – Seattle is a seriously awesome getaway. It makes me so proud of my little ole hometown. I’m pretty excited to visit later this month and check out all the new things that have popped up recently. For all my Seattle-based readers, please send me your tips!

The alternate title to this post could have been “rediscovering adventure post-baby.” You see, even as hard as you might try to maintain “a life” in that first year of parenthood, it’s nearly impossible not to turn into a hermit. Sure, there are varying degrees of forced hibernation – you might enjoy a brunch now and then, perhaps even an overnight away, but your independent existence ceases to be. I fought it as mightily as I could, but those tiny humans make it simply impossible to avoid. But now I have a one-year-old. And my little dude’s new-found independence means I can rediscover some of my own too. It’s like I’ve finally made it the end of the long dark tunnel and I can see the light. And it is golden.

apt34amexfwclassic8

So if my last year has been the year of baby, I’m officially declaring this year #TheYearofErin! I feel so ready to get back out and rediscover the many passions that have fallen by the wayside over the last 12 months. I recently took a massive step in that direction thanks to my American Express Platinum Card. This year I’m working with American Express as an ambassador for the Platinum Card to share my experiences with the many benefits available and value provided to Platinum Card Members. One of them being VIP access to super cool events like the annual Food & Wine Classic in Aspen. Holla!

apt34amexfwclassic7apt34amexfwclassic4apt34amexfwclassic9

the man, the myth, the legend jacques pépin

So last week I touched down a mile & a half above sea level to mix, mingle, eat (and drink!) with some of the best chefs in the world. Did I mention sans baby?? I’ve dreamt of attending this festival for years. It’s basically foodie mecca. And it did not disappoint. For three days, I stuffed myself silly, be it at the Grand tasting tents where you could sample bites from Food & Wine’s Best New Chefs of 2016  (Chef Ravi Kapur of San Francisco’s LihoLiho Yacht Club was representing the Bay Area). You can taste wine from over 150 wineries. It seemed nearly every type of liquor was being poured. It was an all around good time.

cured deer rice crispy from the Chicago restaurant Elizabeth – sounds disgusting but was actually quite delicious

But when you’re too full to eat and drink you can also actually learn something. I watched cooking demonstrations by celebrity chefs like Chris Cosentino, Hugh Acheson, Graham Elliott and Jacques Pépin! You can actually find the recipes for San Francisco-based Chris Cosentino’s New Style Surf & Turf right here. I’m itching to take a stab at braised lamb.

The highlight of the weekend was getting VIP access with my American Express Platinum Card to a By Invitation Only private dinner with celeb chef, Tyler Florence. Tyler and his awesome team put together a stunning menu that included things Watermelon Gazpacho with Marinated Shrimp and Buttermilk Queso Fresco, a gorgeous roast pig and a chic dessert featuring fresh Colorado summer strawberries. And even better –  I got to share the experience with my dear friend Camille Styles who was also attended the Classic.

IMG_8328

While I was in Aspen for the good eats, I totally soaked in my surroundings as well. Aspen is charming. Hard to catch your breath while walking around – hello altitude – but it is charming. And the surrounding scenery is simply stunning. I had the chance to visit the Maroon Bells mountain range – just a 30 minute drive from town. It was well worth missing a visit to the Grand Tasting tents.

apt-amexfwclassic1File_000 (2)

I would also be remiss in not sharing my accommodations because they were a design lover’s dream. I booked all of my travel arrangements on my Platinum Card through the American Express Platinum Travel Concierge, which meant I made one phone call and had all of my flight, hotel and transportation needs taken care of. Boom. Any time saved in mama-land is like gold.

American Express Platinum also has a litany of hotels that offer VIP benefits to Card Members, when booked through the Fine Hotels & Resorts program – things like meal credits, free room upgrades, spa discounts and the like. Aspen’s Hotel Jerome is on said list. I hit the hotel jackpot with this place. Someone described it as the Hunter S. Thompson hotel of Aspen and it proved to be a fitting comparison. The decor was funky cool, a mix of lodge meets swap meet, meets glam lounge. Details ranged from vintage art in every room to elevators wrapped in a patchwork of old leather belts. I loved it all.

apt34_amexfwclassic10

Needless to say, this whirlwind of a weekend was the perfect way to jumpstart #TheYearofErin. I was able to indulge in a major passion – food and wine – while enjoying the sweet taste of a little freedom. For a second it felt like little in my world has changed. While I have to admit I was aching to get back to my kiddo by the end of the weekend (that plane couldn’t fly fast enough), it was so wonderful confirm what I’d always hoped; I’m still me.

I just have even more things (and tiny people) that I love now.

I’ve long had a love affair with Italy. I traveled there for the first time at 17, studied Italian all through college, lived abroad in Siena and have made multiple return trips, including road tripping through northern Italy on my honeymoon. But that was six years ago. To say I’m craving a little la dolce vita right now is an understatement. And it doesn’t help when I find gorgeous hotels straight out of Roman Holiday – like this one.

Beautiful hotel in Italy on Apartment 34Beautiful hotel in Italy on Apartment 34

Located in a 17th century palazzo building in Piazza Pasquino off of Rome’s famed Piazza Navona, this little gem of a hotel features only 10 rooms, all of which are uniquely designed and beautifully appointed. They’re actually like mini-apartments as they all feature separate sitting areas off of each bedroom, many have terraces & mini kitchenette areas. The furnishings – all selected in homage to early 20th century Italian furniture designers –  is juxtaposed with the centuries old rustic features of the building like its original frescoed walls, tiled bathroom floors and exposed timber beams. Hence the hotel’s name, G-Rough.

Beautiful hotel in Italy on Apartment 34Beautiful hotel in Italy on Apartment 34Beautiful hotel in Italy on Apartment 34 Beautiful hotel in Italy on Apartment 34Beautiful hotel in Italy on Apartment 34Beautiful hotel in Italy on Apartment 34 Beautiful hotel in Italy on Apartment 34

But this please does not feel rough at all. It looks perfect. I love that each room boasts a different theme and color palette, killer light fixtures and spectacular art. The penthouse even has a private terrace that gives you a stunning view of the Sant’Agnese dome in Piazza Navona. The hotel lobby features a bar and lounge that regularly showcases local artists. And apparently the hotel even offers a “Lifestyle Manager” that can hook you up with exclusive behind the scenes types of experiences throughout Rome like design tutorials, private dinners in picturesque places and exclusive VIP access to historic sights throughout Rome. Done and done!

Va bene, I’m in. Who’s ready to hop a plane and head to Rome me?? Ciao ciao!!

So sorry this post is a bit delayed. Nothing like a touch of food poisoning to throw you off your blogging game. But I’m on the mend and I wanted to make sure to share my most recent wine country escape with you – because it might be my favorite ones to date and very little wine was actually involved!

This escape was focused less on new wineries and instead on new spas. Seemed like a fair trade off. We hit the road from the city (driving under the Golden Gate will never ever get old) and headed first for Meadowood Napa Valley.

apt34-wine-country-escape apt34-wine-country-escapeapt34-wine-country-escapeapt34-wine-country-escapeapt34-wine-country-escape

Tucked into a canyon off the Silverado Trail, Meadowood Napa Valley is a hidden oasis. Under 100 guest rooms (many, including the one we stayed in are actually individual little cabins) dot the 250 hundred acre property. We stayed in a Treeline Suite. The room featured a fireplace, soaking tub, private decks and of course heavenly hotel beds. What is it about hotel beds – I usually hate a soft bed but when I sink into a plush feather-filled bed when I’m on vacation, wild horses have to drag me back out again. That’s a long-winded way of saying I found the whole hotel room very comfortable.

Also hidden amongst the trees are swimming pools, tennis courts, golf and hiking trails. We enjoyed dinner at the resort’s restaurant The Grill. The only disappointment is that the 3 Michelin starred Restaurant at Meadowood was closed for the weekend. But what I was really excited to test out was the resort’s newly opened holistic spa. I’m a sucker for a good spa treatment but my experience at Meadowood was exceptional.

apt34-wine-country-escape apt34-wine-country-escape apt34-wine-country-escape

Their brand new all-inclusive spa facility is gorgeous. Think solid oak floors, beautiful linens and pillows and I wanted to stash in my luggage to take home with me. But it was their treatment suite that really blew me away. You were taken into your own private treatment room that included a steam shower and private bathroom, private sitting room and of course the treatment room. You met with your therapist in the sitting room to discuss your personalized needs and then a custom treatment of essential oils and aroma therapy is made right in front of you to enjoy during your massage. The entire experience was tranquil and lovely.

The spa also features a chic garden area with saunas, lounge chairs and plunge pool you can enjoy for the day – either before or after your treatment. But if you’re digging the privacy thing, there’s also a private “tree house suite” featuring a soaking tub, fireplace and that stunning bed that you can rent out – for the entire day if you like! Genius.

Everything at the Meadowood spa was understated, minimalist, modern but a touch wabi-sabi at the same time. I wanted to stay forever.

apt34-wine-country-escapeapt34-wine-country escape

But we had to go. We were scheduled to hop across the valley from Napa into Sonoma – driving through stunning vistas of vineyards blooming with mustard btw – to stay at Sonoma’s famed Farmhouse Inn. Farmhouse Inn takes boutique to another level. Tucked into an open and backed up upon a forrest, the four yellow guest buildings pop against the see of green. We were greeted at reception by very nice staff and two resident cats who were eager to escort us to our room. The staff, not the cats though we were warned they’d try to snuggle with any cat enthusiast. With only 25 rooms you’re going to get very personalized service. And of course I swooned over the design. The rooms put the perfect modern spin on cottage chic.

apt34-wine-country-escape

The rooms also feature soaking tubs which I made liberal use of, especially since they offer bath salts, sugar scrubs and homemade soaps at reception so you can make your own mini-spa kit. I don’t think I’ve bathed so much in one weekend. But I did drag myself back out of the room to give the Farmhouse Inn spa a test run. Set up in the Inn’s “barn,” I was equally impressed by the spa’s design. It was less modern zen and more down home – like you were walking into someplace immediately familiar and welcoming. I’m also a sucker for any space that’s all white!

For my treatment at Farmhouse I got to test out their new treatment app which let me use Numerology to determine the best essential oils for my system. I love that kind of stuff so was totally into it. The massage also featured the use of herbal compress balls that are applied warm to your back to help further ease tension. And feel amazing. I wouldn’t have left the spa if it weren’t for the lovely three course breakfast that was awaiting me in the restaurant (which is also Michelin starred). The food, the ambience, everything at the Farmhouse Inn was stunning.

apt34-wine-country-escapeapt34-wine-country-escapeapt34-wine-country-escape

I was so focused on relaxing on this trip, I actually failed to do any wine tasting – though plenty of wine was consumed to be sure. That only means I have to get back up to the Valley sooner rather than later. I truly love experiencing it during every season, whether it’s blazing in oranges and reds during harvest, stark and leafless but striking during winter, or tinted by the golden light of early spring. I’d never seen the mustard blooming before. It was gorgeous. I’ve always thought of myself as a beach person but wine country has this hold on me now that won’t let go. I’m already counting down the days until I go back again.

Right now the Farmhouse Inn and Meadowood Napa Valley are offering a “Best of Both Valleys” Getaway package. It includes two nights at each property, breakfasts, spa treatments and custom wine tasting itineraries. If you’re looking for the ultimate luxurious escape, it doesn’t really get any better than that.

You know those Sunday nights where your workload is stacked high and you have plans to be oh so productive. And then suddenly 11pm is staring you in the face and you know the alarm clock will go off too early. I know you feel my pain.

So while I have a recap of my recent wine country getaway headed your way, for now I give you a quiet moment of tranquil perfection to start your day.
